About me

Life can feel difficult at times and there are many reasons people come for counselling. Maybe you have suffered a  particular event, such as the end of a relationship, a bereavement or something has left you feeling like you can't make sense of things. Perhaps you have been feeling 'off' like something is just not right and it is hard to get rid of feelings of anxiety. Maybe you are just curious about what makes you tick, or have questions around your sexuality or identity.  Anxiety and depression are on the rise, particularly with the current challenges in our daily lives.

I offer a warm, safe and empathetic space where we can work together to make sense of your feelings and to help you to feel better.

I work psychodynamically, where we consider relationships both in the present and in the past, to find the unconscious patterns that may be keeping you stuck with old pain that affects your daily life.

I am also qualified in Family Therapy as well as Jungian approaches and I will call upon what is most appropriate for each individual client. I am also qualified to provide short-term, time-limited counselling.

New appointments come up regularly and I do work outside of the days and times indicated. Slots tend to go quickly, so do drop me an email with your number and preference for either Cheltenham or Stroud, and we can work out the day and time that works best.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked for many years with adults, families and young people in various settings. Most recently I have worked alongside social services. as well as with people affected by domestic abuse. I am experienced in working with those exploring sexuality, as well as gender identity.

I currently work with a local organisation, both as a counsellor as well as tutoring on counselling courses.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP and work to their standards of ethics and monitoring in practice.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, G.C.S.
  • Certificate in Applied Systemic Theory (Family Therapy), Tavistock and Portman Institute
  • Time-Limited Counselling: Gaynor Maxwell-Scott

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
