About me
My name is Siân. A warm welcome to my profile. I hope you find it informative. I am a professionally qualified and experienced therapeutic counsellor and psychotherapist and I have supported many aspects of human experience.
How can Counselling and Psychotherapy help?
You often may repress and bury your feelings and issues rather than work through and acknowledge them. You may even feel an ache or emptiness in your heart due to unmet emotional and spiritual needs. You may find things which offer temporary relief, but in the long term do not seem to satisfy. My feelings are that no one should feel alone to cope with painful issues.
Counselling is an ongoing process which enables you to increase your understanding of yourself and relationship with others. It enables time for self reflection and personal growth often finding the root to the problem, enabling you to live a more satisfying and resourceful life, helping you to access greater insights and new perspectives which can be empowering. It is also for anyone who wants to explore meaning as well as functionality.
Certain experiences in my own life sharpened and deepened my desire to train as a counsellor. Consequently I have experienced a passion and a calling to assist people to find healing and wholeness.
Engendering hope is at the heart of my practice. 'Hope is one of the most powerful and energising forces and is fundamental to human need.' Seeking counselling is in itself an act of hope. It is also a sign of strength and not weakness. I believe that every human being has infinite worth and value and a desire to receive unconditional love, positive regard and respect and as these qualities are received I believe a person has the enormous potential to grow and develop. I never underestimate the value of giving a person hope, even when they cannot hold it for themselves.
I have also had the privilege of experiencing first hand how other qualities of empathy, acceptance, humility, understanding and compassion together with relevant tools and techniques have brought positive changes into people's lives. New developments in neuroscience is now confirming this. Experience has also made me very aware of the tremendous resources people have within themselves to overcome adversity.
My counselling/psychotherapy orientation and philosophy:
My counselling/psychotherapy skills offer a holistic, integrative and relational approach.
The Holistic Approach recognises the 'whole person' and complexities of what it is to be human considering all the factors that go into making you who you are.
The Integrative and Relational Approach means that I have studied many different theories and techniques such as : Person Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic, Attachment Theory, Gestalt, Transpersonal, Transactional Analysis (TA) Mindfulness, Psycho Education and creative techniques. I believe that tailoring these skills and techniques can enhance therapy and offers a powerful aid to enable changes at a deeper level bringing greater insights, wisdom and new perspectives. However, as I recognise that individuals are unique and complex the counselling is tailored to your needs, never underestimating the powerful resource of a human relationship to affect change.
I believe that the truth is what sets us free, however sometimes wounded inner child experiences from the past can give power to dysfunctional reactions and dictate how we respond to present life. The child within you carries your history, your feelings, your pain, your fear and learned behaviours. But exploring this area can release your natural creativity, your true desires and needs which when revealed will bring truth, freedom and authenticity into your life. Then it becomes easier to appreciate your potential and purpose in life.
Testimonials of recent clients:
I cannot think what would have happened if I hadn't met Siân. I'd had counselling before which hadn't helped, but she has given me my physical, emotional, and hopefully working and social /relationship life back. I feel very blessed to have found her.

Counselling with Siân has given me the opportunity to explore the deeper reasons for the anxiety I experience and this has helped me to manage it a lot better in my daily life.
I found the sessions relaxed, supportive and felt safe to open up to an extent I don't think I have done before. Siân has been the best counsellor I have met and so easy to talk to. She is compassionate, professional and her techniques have really helped me. I would 100% recommend her service.

Siân was considerate, kind, non judgemental, compassionate and understanding. She was everything I needed. I felt safe in her company to discuss my inner most feelings.. things I have never told anyone. I trust her.

By creating a positive and open atmosphere I was able to talk about much deeper things than I would with family and friends. Siân was great about finding out what motivated me or how I reacted to certain things--she could sense my emotions sometimes as soon as I'd walked through the door! I really felt as if she took the time to get to know me as a person and guided me to knowing more about myself and how I approached problems and situations.
I couldn't recommend you highly enough Siân and I will forever be indebted and grateful to you... You are an awesome superstar!

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
