About me

Hi, my name is Sophie, and I am an experienced trauma informed counsellor and therapist.

When did someone ask you how you were feeling and you answered truthfully?

In our busy world with real threat, stressful jobs and complicated family dynamics, we forget ourselves.

Trauma whether it be childhood, personal or second hand or surviving an abusive relationship or experiencing a traumatic event while working is very much a given for many people in the UK.

The main goal of my private practice is to support and offer a unique bespoke, flexible, trauma therapy service to survivors of PTSD or CPTSD.

Whether you have a formal diagnosis of CPTSD or PTSD or you are struggling with the impact of any trauma and the crippling symptoms of your experience I want to offer a safe and grounded space for you to work on what YOU want to work with in therapy.

True trauma informed therapy is hard to find and as a survivor myself I’m aware of how disappointing it can be that national services are very limited to minimal sessions.

I work with the acclaimed Judith Herman 3 stage model of

·       Safety and stabilisation

·       Remembrance and mourning

·       Reconnection

I also use psycho educational practice to educate my clients to support themselves and give them a growing arsenal of tools to use in their future.

This could be through -

·       Visualisation therapy and Polyvagal practice – teaching about their nervous system and impact of the brain and body in Trauma.

·       Breathe Work and Somatic anger release techniques – to stop or support panic attacks, disassociation and relieve body impact of being stuck in the freeze state.

·       Dual awareness and compassioned focus therapy – to reconnect with life after a traumatic experience or just living with CPTSD /PTSD

I’m very happy to offer blue light concessions and flexibility for shift workers in the NHS, Police, Service and Armed forces.

Regardless the issue, I’m her to hold space for you to unpick and open those hidden boxes.

What you see is what you get with me, and my lived experience allows me to understand the best ways to address each client’s needs in a bespoke, client-friendly manner.  I believe that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work.

Depression and anxiety is a deep hole, I want to help you climb out of that hole but at your pace.

Every trauma and every human experience is unique to that person.
I’m a trauma informed, grief friendly individual therapist.

I use a mix of psychoeducational empowerment, somatic connection, grounding exercises and Humanistic and Existential therapy to help walk the road with you to wherever or however far you feel you can go.

Please remember this is your journey, you are in control.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
