About me

Our life stories are complex and unique to all of us...all of our experiences, relationships and circumstances, impact on how we feel today and how we will be tomorrow!

My approach in counselling comes from integrating my background of Person-Centred Counselling and Mental Health and Wellbeing Coaching, here's a bit about what I do to see if this is right for you?

WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING COUNSELLING  / COACHING?

Exploring your life story, experiences, relationships and all that make you who you are, and how you feel. Together, we can safely unravel the confusion and unresolved issues which may be causing anxiety, depression and other mental health issues; to find a better place of insight, clarity and acceptance...a better "today."

My background in counselling comes from a Person-Centred approach; where we work safely, at your own pace through the life events, transitions, disruptions and lived trauma you may have experienced which can cause emotional distress, anxiety or depression. Additionally, as a qualified Mental Health & Wellbeing Coach, I can offer a more Integrated approach, tailored to individual needs with the use of information, tools and techniques.

The advantage of working together from an Integrated Approach is that we can work together focusing specifically on the issues which are are impacting on your Mental Health & Wellbeing on a daily basis - improving self-management and regulation using information, tools and techniques, while recognising and exploring the underlying issues which may have contributed to discord or distress.

As a counsellor and coach I am committed to exploring all areas related to Mental Health and Wellbeing. In doing so, I regularly attend training workshops and webinars, along with reading and research tailored to the specific needs of each client.

IS THIS FOR ME?

Counselling is a different experience for everyone. You've come this far and made that first important move to seek support. Please feel free to contact me for a free Discovery Meeting and we can find out how best to tailor your individual mental health and wellbeing needs.

REVIEWS

"Sarah is not only extremely professional and knowledgeable in her field, but she is also one of the most kind, compassionate and approachable individuals I have met. I felt like I could be 100% myself in my sessions, being completely open and honest about how I felt and at no point feared being judged. One aspect I found helping, and different from previous counselling experiences elsewhere, was Sarah’s ability to challenge me to look deeper into why I felt or behaved the way I did, allowing me to get a greater understanding of myself and giving me the ability to now do this independently."

- Anon, December 2023.

"Sarah is extremely knowledgeable in her field and her professionalism is beyond doubt. But more valuable is the way she delivers all of this on a human level, with compassion, deep understanding, and a genuine want to help, which comes across as her purpose rather than just a vocation”.

- Laura, August 2023.

Before I started my counselling with Sarah, I was stuck in a cycle of perpetual self-deprecation. I couldn’t stand to study for my degree out of fear of “not being good enough” and worry for making things worse. I couldn’t go on with it anymore and felt like I had to leave. Sarah has offered me patience and support in a place where I can freely work through my troubles. Now, after 9 months of working with Sarah, I am aiming to return to university to finish my degree with confidence and I’m able to manage my feelings on my own. Sometimes you need to listen to your own thoughts, but sometimes you need someone else to listen first, and that’s where Sarah comes in. Attending Sarah’s sessions was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life!”

Shaun, July 2023.

When I started with my sessions with Sarah I was lost in my life. I had lots of different things going on and I had no idea how I was expected to handle them all. I had my discovery call remotely while on holiday and from that point on my life changed. I had weekly sessions with Sarah and if I wasn’t in Aberdeen she would ensure we could still speak remotely. We talked about my past, my present and she helped me look into my future and decide what was to come next. After a couple months I felt more like myself, more like me than I’ve ever felt in my life. I have now moved to a new city and started the next chapter of my life, something which I know would have been a struggle to do prior to my sessions."

- Shantelle, March 2023.

“I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into therapy, but Sarah has made my experience extremely worthwhile. I have discovered so much about myself thanks to Sarah, for example, learning to listen to my own core wants and needs. Sarah has really helped me overcome my concerns, providing me with a completely new outlook and I can't be more thankful.”

- Cara, March 2022.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
