About me

I am passionate in the belief that everyone has the capacity for growth and change and my intention is to help all clients reach their full potential. As a person I am friendly, caring, non-judgemental, down to earth, warm and welcoming. Counselling can be liberating, and I believe humour definitely has its place, but it can also be challenging and extremely emotional at times, so it is essential that you feel safe. In support of this important principle, I undertake regular supervision and am committed to continuing my personal development which includes keeping my skills and knowledge up to date. I am fully qualified, insured and a member of the BACP.

I work in a person-centred way which strongly emphasises a relationship between the counsellor and client which is built on trust and acceptance and that this can enable healing and positive change. I offer a confidential, secure, and calm space in which together we can explore any difficulties you may be experiencing, and life changes you are trying to cope with. We will work at your own pace as I am aware that no two people are the same and so will adapt what we do in therapy in order to meet your unique, individual needs. The most important thing is that you feel free to explore your feelings, feel heard and validated in your experience and can achieve a better understanding of yourself. This may mean looking at the past and letting go of some of the old ideas which hold you back and building a sense of self-esteem and a greater ability to trust yourself.

Training, qualifications & experience

FdSc Person-Centred Counselling.

My experience of working in different agencies has enabled me to work with a wide range of people, experiencing many different issues. I work with a vast range of issues, including relationship issues, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, disability, addiction, feeling stuck, stress, and low self-esteem.

Alongside counselling, I also work part time as a group leader for children and young people. I facilitate peer support groups for Bereavement and Mental Health.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Accessing counselling for the first time can be daunting, I am mindful of how overwhelming it can feel so I offer a free telephone initial consultation appointment lasting up to 15 minutes to establish if I am the right therapist for you. This will be an opportunity to consider how we may work together. We can use this time to discuss what brought you to therapy what areas you would like to work on and allow you time to ask questions. I can offer short- and long-term therapy, depending upon your wants and needs.

*Concessions for NHS workers, low income, OAPS and students.
