About me

Salma Khalid is a highly qualified and experienced (Masters Level) Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Coach, Clinical supervisor and Creative writer. Salma has worked in the mental health and well-being field for over twenty years and has a varied range of experience from her work in the NHS , the private sector and the voluntary sector . Salma  is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Salma has held a former role ad Lead Advisor for Spirituality and Belief with the BACP from 2011 to 2016. 

Salma currently works in both in private practice and with several organisations. These include Cartwheel Arts , Early Break, Drug and Alcohol  Service for children and Young People.   The Rory Peck Foundation, (Supporting freelance journalists worldwide ) FD Consultants (Psychosocial Support and Trauma Specialist Services ) and VESTA ( Specialist family support service ) . Salma is also a poet and  integrates poetry into her work through creative writing and meditation . 

Life can bring up issues that can cause emotional distress and unhappiness and create a sense of brokenness and fragmentation. This can affect our wellbeing and quality of life in terms of health, work and relationships. In addition to this our search for meaning and purpose in life can sometimes be challenged. This can often lead to symptoms of anxiety depression and unhappiness. Psychological therapy can help in exploring these issues and working towards healing, recovery and a more positive sense of wellbeing and living.

Salma's approach is an integrative one that encompasses various modalities and skills to tailor therapy for each clients individual needs. These modalities include psychodynamic, person centred , hypno-psychotherapy , transactional analysis, cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness and psycho-spiritual work. She has vast experience of working with relationship issues (both with couples and individuals including Children and young people), postnatal depression, trauma, abuse, separation/divorce, low mood/anxiety, stress, eating/alcohol/drug difficulties, low self-esteem and body image issues, bereavement and loss, work related issues , redundancy, career changes, retirement, long -term illness and also infertility. She has vast experience and knowledge of working across diverse client groups and hence skilled in working transculturally.

Salma is very passionate about working with matters of spirituality and our search for meaning and purpose and is skilled in working in this area from matters of Spiritual emergency, spiritual transformation and spiritual direction (includes working with clergy). She has  additional training in working with former members of abusive groups and relationships and can offer support in this area.

Salma has over 26 years experience ranging from working in the National Health Service, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  Salma is also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). In addition to this she has a longstanding private practice for psychological therapy, clinical supervision, training in cultural competency and project development work.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

£55 per  hour for individual therapy

£70 per hour for couples work.

£65 per hour session for invoiced work (eg Corporate, Employee Assistance Programme and Private Health Insurance.
