About me

So now you have decided to start therapy, how will you choose who is the right therapist for you? I’m guessing that you would want to speak to someone in whose presence you feel comfortable, accepted and most importantly, someone who is human!

If you would like me to be your therapist, there are several things I can confidently offer you:

  • Someone who has life experience
  • A compassionate and down to earth approach
  • A professional and high quality level of counselling and psychotherapy
  • Someone who is trained to work with and to understand both children and adults
  • A warm and welcoming, confidential space (in person or online)

Clients have told me they enjoy seeing someone who has a genuine and warm approach, who is gently challenging and who is professional and reliable.

My therapeutic training is in integrative counselling and psychotherapy. This means that I blend approaches, rather than use one approach specifically.

Training, qualifications & experience

Due to my experience and training, there are a few issues I would call my ‘specialities’. This doesn’t mean that I can’t work with other issues, it just means that I have a deeper understanding of certain topics due to my interest and experience.

My training and experience mean that I can confidently and ethically work with trauma; whether this occurred during childhood or more recently. This might take the form of abuse or neglect, an accident or anything you feel you haven’t had the time to process yet, which is still causing you distress in some way. I can also integrate EMDR in my practice; a form of therapy which helps the brain to ‘unstick’ traumatic memories or experiences and process them effectively.

As I have a history of working with children and families, I often consider knowledge from attachment theory in my work and think about how much a client's sense of their ‘self’ developed during childhood and their significant relationships.

My time spent working in addiction rehabilitation means that I can also help if you have any unhealthy or problematic relationships with gambling, substances or even if you just have a cycle of behaviour which you are finding difficult to break; such as getting into unhealthy relationships over and over again. Therapy with me would help you to think about the ‘why’ underlying these behaviours and help you consider what might be going on below the surface.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
