About me

What is Counselling:

Counselling offers the space to explore the depth of your emotions to discover the roots and patterns to your processing. This helps to build on your internal strength and work towards positive change.

About Me:

Hello, thank you for viewing my profile. My name is Rosie and I am an Integrative Counsellor. My focuses are in Psychodynamic and Person Centered Approaches which enable me to offer a tailor-made approach to counselling that best suits your therapeutic needs. I specialise in working with LGBT+ Identities through my further training and experience of working for The Leicester LGBT Counsellor as a specialist LGB+ Counsellor and Trans Adult Counsellor.

Short and Long Term  Options:

You may wish to engage with counselling in a way that works as a short term 'tune up' of life strategies to help and manage current difficulties, or possibly with long term exploration work to get to the core of deep difficulties. All sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually weekly.

LGBT+ Counselling:

Navigating your sexuality and/or gender identity can sometimes feel like swimming the deepest oceans. It can feel isolating, relationships may change and the need for human connection goes unmet. I work in a way that is positive and empowering, to build on your inner strength.

My Experience:

I worked as an Integrative Counsellor at The Leicester LGBT Centre for 5 years. This has given me the knowledge, experience, training and passion to work positively and effectively with LGBT+ individuals. I also offer workshops to other counsellors that focus on working with LGBT+ Clients. I have my own private practice on New Walk called RUCounselling which has been running for 2 years and established with the support of The Princes Trust.

What to expect in your first session:

We will complete an assessment form, which will look at an overview of your current situation. This session is different to a counselling session as I will ask about different parts of your life rather than focusing on one particular issue.  After this assessment session, I will ask you to reflect on how it has felt for you and ask you to email me after a couple of days reflection if you would like to engage with therapy. I will then send over the counselling contracts and we will begin the counselling process.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at The University of Leicester where I gained my degree in Integrative Counselling. The training focused on Psychodynamic and Person Centered Approaches

I have worked as an Integrative Counsellor for 6 years. I gained my experience at The Leicester LGBT Centre and continue to practice through my own private work, R U Counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
