About me

Coming for counselling is never easy. I recognise the courage that it takes to reach out for support. You may worry that counselling isn’t for you. It might feel uncomfortable to prioritise your needs. Life can be hard and we all have so many demands on our time and attention. When is the last time you felt that somebody really listened to you? Or that you felt heard and accepted, without judgement?

Everybody’s counselling journey will be a unique and collaborative experience. You are always at the heart of my work – I am not here to ‘fix’ you, or tell you what to do. After all, who better to understand your own thoughts, feelings and life history than you? I believe that attentive and compassionate listening can help you to better understand yourself, improve your self-esteem, and enable you to respond more effectively to anything that life might throw your way.

My role is to provide you with a warm and supportive space in which you can explore each and every aspect of yourself – yes, even those parts that feel messy, ugly or unpleasant. My training was ‘integrative’, which means that I may draw on a few different theories and techniques in order to tailor our work to your individual needs. I love to learn, and I’m constantly updating my skills and knowledge so that I can support you to the best of my ability.

My background is in support work, enabling adults with neurodiversity, learning disabilities and mental illness to lead fulfilling lives. Whilst training as a counsellor, I worked for a local self-harm helpline for several years. I have particular experience in working with eating disorders, and continue to work in this field as a recovery coach. I also provide volunteer counselling for a service that supports individuals bereaved by suicide.

Other areas that I have worked with include stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, LGBTQIA+ issues, body image and bereavement. I am passionate about working in a way that recognises the impact of trauma on individuals, incorporating grounding elements to foster a sense of safety and autonomy in my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
