About me

My name is Philbe and I am a qualified counsellor.  I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I believe in the power of talking therapy and it's potential to transform your life as you explore what might be hindering you from being your true self and reaching your full potential.

As a counsellor my aim is to create a safe space where you can talk about whatever you need to.  Sometimes it can be hard to find the words to fully express what is going on so I can offer creative approaches that gives space for the exploration of feelings and an awareness of choices and behaviours.  It is from this place you can then decide what you want to do and any changes you might want to make.

My private practice is based in Kempston and serves clients in and around Bedfordshire for in person sessions. I also offer online sessions both nationally and internationally.

Next Steps

Firstly - I'd be happy to have a short phone call with you if that is helpful - however it would be only 10 minutes and it would mainly be about the practicalities of the counselling process. You may find it helpful to have a look at my website too.

Secondly - we can book an Initial Assessment which is £45 for 50 minutes. This session gives us an opportunity to discover if we work well together as client and counsellor.  You will be able to share in a safe and confidential space the reason you have come to counselling without feeling rushed. You will be able to ask any questions you might have about the counselling process and how I work as a counsellor. We will also go over any key paperwork so you can start your counselling journey as soon as possible

Training, qualifications & experience

Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

Clinical director at Spring Therapeutic Services in Kempston

I am a qualified Integrative counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I was trained in the Humanistic approach which means I explore with a client their unique experience of life events and how that effects them in the here and now. I encourage the client to take a deeper look inside to gain a better understanding of their responses and behaviours in relation to these experiences and how they might want to change them. I can also draw on other techniques and approaches depending on the needs of my client. I may at times make suggestions of tools that a client might find helpful.

I work with adults (18+) and have worked with clients that have experienced trauma as a result of domestic abuse, sexual abuse or assault.  I have an understanding of PTSD and Dissociative behaviours.

I have over 10 years of experience of working within a pastoral role offering support to those that are experiencing emotional crisis and trauma.

I mostly work with clients on a 1-1 basis but I've also facilitated groups offering support to both male and female survivors of domestic abuse.  Other groups and training I have facilitated include wellbeing sessions around anxiety, depression, stress and resilience, women's experience of safety and trauma informed practice. I have also partnered with a homeless charity offering counselling to their clients who often struggle with complex life issues.

For some clients faith and spirituality is very important to them and therefore a key part of their counselling journey. As a counsellor I will work with what is important to you. I will welcome you into a safe space, where you can open up about all areas of your life, without fear of judgement.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
