Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Children and Young People (Anxiety, OCD and Eating Disorders) - Oxford Cognitive Training Centre

I founded the Ashley Cross Eating Disorders Service and I manage a team who deliver our service in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Southampton and London. I run my own well-being business which offers professional therapy services alongside nutritional advice. I believe that a combined effort to take care of one’s mental well-being and physical well-being is essential to living a balanced lifestyle.

I am an experienced therapist and hold my own professional indemnity insurance. My range of therapeutic services are offered in, and around, Bournemouth and Southampton.

Over the past ten years, I have worked in the public sector exploring health and illness in society and learned about social influence on human health. I am an experienced counsellor and have spent the last five years working in the field of addiction.

Through out my career I have worked with young children who were picky eaters, adolescents and adults with eating disorders, as well as elderly people. Becoming more experienced in the field, my interests directed me into expanding my therapeutic capacity into both a nutritionist and a counsellor.

I have worked in international treatment centres inside and outside of the UK where I was able to gain experience with both adults and young people with a variety of process addictions and mental health issues. I have worked as a therapist with children, young people and adults in different local charities helping those suffering with drug and alcohol addiction. In recent years I have worked within a private healthcare hospital setting offering therapy to adults experiencing difficulties with anorexia nervosa, binge eating and bulimia nervosa. I have also worked on an CAMHS inpatient unit using CBT and psychotherapy.

My most recent training has been with Bournemouth University on the stage one Health Psychology route which means that I will soon be an accredited Psychologist. I mainly use CBT-E which is the enhanced version of cognitive behavioural therapy which has been adapted for individuals with eating disorders. This choice of treatment can be intensive and requires commitment which is why online therapy is a good option to offer flexibility. Treatment starts intensively and then slows down towards the end of treatment. The treatment can also be complimented by focusing on self-esteem, perfectionism and interpersonal problems. Other therapeutic alternatives to CBT-E can include MANTRA.

I am an accredited member of the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) and a registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which means that I abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling.

I invest in my professional development and have received the following qualifications:

MSc Health Psychology - Bournemouth University (Current); MSc Psychology - University of Bristol (2019); MANTRA through King's College London; CBT-E (Eating Disorders) through CREDO (current); Prevent Training 2016; Abuse within Teenage Relationships Training 2016; Common Assessment Framework (CAF) 2016; Child Sexual Exploitation Level 3 2015; Domestic Violence Level 1; Risk Management 2015; Information Governance 2015; Challenging Behaviour 2015; Safeguarding Adults Awareness 2014; Mental Capacity Act, The Legislation 2014; The Legal Highs Phenomenon 2014; Recording Skills and Report Writing Adult Services 2013; Safeguarding Children Level 3 2013; Health and Safety 2013; Childhood Eating Disorders and Obesity 2011; Emotional Freedom Technique Level 1 2011.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
