About me
It’s good to talk.
I am Monique - an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I like to listen. I like to help. I don’t judge, I don’t criticise, I don’t tell people what to do. I know shame, guilt, and fear. I understand despair, loneliness, and longing, and how it feels when life gets dark.
I encourage my clients to get to the root of their issues but you will always be in control of what happens in the counselling room. We will work at your pace and will only ever do what you feel ready for.
I will:

- Help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and - dilemmas
- Be comfortable with all of your emotions
- Be there for you when you feel you aren’t coping
- Treat you with respect
- Keep everything you say strictly confidential (there are a few exceptions to this)

I will never:
- Criticise, judge, or impose my opinions on you
- Diminish your problems
- Make you feel ashamed or embarrassed
- Think that ‘other people have it harder than you'
- Give unwanted advice or tell you what to do
- Preach
- Get uncomfortable when faced with difficult issues
I work using a variety of elements from traditional approaches, as well as the latest, cutting edge psychotherapeutic techniques. Those include: person-centred approach, Gestalt, subcellular psychobiology, Emotional Freedom Technique, body psychotherapy, psychodynamic approach, and Triune Brain.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

I am accepting new clients at the moment. I can see you face-to-face in my home in York but am equally happy to meet you online wherever you are. I also offer telephone sessions.
