About me
Hello, I'm Lucy. I'm a counsellor based in South West London, within easy reach of Balham, Tooting, Wandsworth Common, Earlsfield. I work with individual adults (18+) on a short/fixed-term or open-ended basis either in-person or online. Specialisms include anxiety and stress, depression, low self-esteem and relationship issues (ie with family, friends, colleagues, partners, dating, single not by choice). Scroll down for the complete list of issues I can support you with. Counselling can help you to (re)start living your life to the full again.
My way of working is integrative which enables me to draw on established, evidence-based psychotherapeutic theories (predominantly person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT) to tailor my approach to reflect a client’s unique concerns and individuality. I provide a confidential, genuine, empathic and non-judgemental space to help foster a trusting relationship with clients.
The therapy sessions I offer are 50 minutes each and take place at the same time and place every week (subject to holidays, etc). If you would like further information or have any questions just get in touch.
What counselling can help with
There are times when you might need some extra support with your mental health and wellbeing. I aim to help you feel better, come to terms with the past or what is troubling you currently, and/or find ways to support you in identifying a future that works for you. Maybe a work or life event has thrown you off course, or you are struggling with new or ongoing feelings of anxiety and/or depression, or there are things in your past, present or future that you want to process and come to terms with. Counselling can support you with all of this.
Next steps
Please contact me to arrange a brief, no obligation, introductory chat. This offers us the opportunity to ask any questions and get an overview of what's bringing you to therapy and how I might be able to support you. After that, if it feels right, you can go ahead and book in your first session.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm a qualified and experienced counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
I have experience of working in the NHS, low-cost therapy services, schools, bereavement services and private practice with a range of mental health issues including (but not limited to): Depression, anxiety, stress, work-related issues, self-esteem and identity issues, grief and bereavement, planned/unplanned childlessness, relationship/friendship/family issues, ageing, illness, loneliness.
I also have many years of experience working in the corporate environment and am attuned to the pressures work can place on people and the effects it has on their personal lives.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
