About me

Hello I'm Lorraine, the face of CANDLE MOUSE COUNSELLING

If you need comfort, someone who comes across with a warm, sincere- approach, then I might be the right fit for you.

I am a professional psycho-therapeutic counsellor, an experienced senior audiologist and ex-sound practitioner so able to work with people from all 'walks of life', 'professions', 'ages', 'cultures and beliefs' etc.

I do this by homing my person centred training and skills to provide what I call a safe container (space) for counselling. Although I am grounded within my Person centred approach,  I am also interested (when appropriate for each individual client) to integrate different approaches if it feels of help to your counselling process.

This could be working with narratives and timelines,  cognitive behavioural therapy and its schemas to help you manage anxiety, stress or depression,  or  breathing skills and Psycho-education and to give you a new sense of control over your general heath and well-being. This can be done working remotely online, over the telephone with clients across the UK or if Cornwall based in person in Truro, Cornwall for face-to-face work.

Sessions

I am passionate about our work. We engage in counseling which comes under the description of 'talking therapy' using core conditions to provide you with that space to explore whatever is brought into the counselling room. We can talk about what comes up, how you are feeling and the emotions that sit with you. Sometimes this is on the surface, sometimes that which doesn't sit well and feels uncomfortable within the body.

We work to form a good therapeutic relationship and put in the building blocks together to develop a greater awareness of yourself; who you are today and where you want to be in the future. With this in mind it is done gently with an open heart, where I believe our body only takes us to where we can go and give us a good strong mindset to do the work together. I trust we can do this, especially if you read this directory and have that connection and sense we can work together. So please take that leap and contact me today to start our dialogue together.

How long are the sessions and their frequency?

Sessions are 50 minutes long

I work with individuals weekly, fortnightly and very occasionally monthly for check-ins and maintenance.

Fees

Sessions during the day offer lower fees based on each individual needs but during the evening full rates apply.

Fees daytime £55 per session

Fees after 6pm per session £70

Where will our sessions be?

I offer face-to-face sessions with adult clients in Truro and remotely online to the rest of the UK.

individual counselling

Sometimes I work with the following to help you with;

Anxiety - all types , stress and depression (mentioned earlier)

Grief, Loss and plus any form of Bereavement. With such difficult emotion; finding space to speak with me a trained professional therapist can make the difference. Less loneliness within the situation as we start to unpick your feelings and emotions.

If ADHD or Neurodiversity is something you would like to talk about especially around the Difference and Diversity side of things. I believe in Ally-ship and happy to explore these feeling with you without any judgement or criticism. Tell me what adjustments we need to make in the counselling room, whether this is timings, lightings, the needs for creativity or stimming and I will be only too happy to try to accommodate this for you.

You notice others making comments about your Emotions at home or at work but you feel unable to know where to start and how to stop the behaviour, or other history concerning you which does not make sense. Coming to counselling might be the first place where you can be yourself.

You are triggered emotionally too many times but don't know why and want to deepen your self-awareness. Although I am not a trauma therapist as such, we can still talk about this and can signposted you forward to a trusted colleague if needed.

You want to establish Boundaries perhaps for the first time and start to take responsibility and accountability for life.

You have an awareness of negative thinking or negative thoughts and a tendency to black and white thinking or catastrophizing etc. If you want to work on this by utilizing tools to improve quality of wellbeing.

You have intrusive thoughts coming and going, which are overwhelming emotions

Feelings of hopelessness, sadness, shame, loneliness, low confidence and low self-worth. Perhaps perfectionism, avoidance, low motivation, anxiety and stress are holding you back and you want to work on these areas.

You experience procrastination all the time, form unhealthy relationships and keep repeating patterns, not knowing how to make changes for the better. You feel there is no secure base, little trust, boundaries, struggle with communication and need a space to unpack and share emotions with no judgement or criticism from a professional therapist.

Phone and leave your contact details or send me an enquiry or direct email. It would be helpful for you to tell me a little about yourself if you can.  We can find out what you want and work out how we achieve this together in our work. I can give you an idea of sessions time lengths, whether short or long term working and certain we can find a suitable time for us both to meet and work together.

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for taking the time for reading my write up.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
