About me

My name is Lorraine and I am a fully qualified counsellor offering therapy based in Aldershot/ Woking area in person or online to adults and young people aged 11+. I have experience of working with young people at CAMHS as well as within a counselling agency environment.

Sometimes life can become difficult, leaving us feeling distressed, anxious or depressed and not like our usual self. This could be as a result of a recent trauma or just the overwhelming pressures of life. Things like anxiety, self harm or low mood can appear when you least expect. These curve balls that are thrown at us mean we sometimes can’t see a way forward. As a trained counsellor I can support you by helping you to understand and make sense of your feelings without judgement, and together we can look at the unhelpful and sometimes unhealthy patterns and actions that may be stopping you living the life you feel you should.

What I offer

My aim is to work with you, helping you get back on track and feeling like you are more in control of your life and less overwhelmed. I am mindful that no person is the same hence no single approach is right, therefore I work with every client as an individual person to provide a therapeutic space. During our sessions, we will work together to enable you to find your own solutions to help you become a happier more confident person giving you the tools to navigate life’s up and downs. My training means I can support you through a range of modalities, this includes: person centred, psychodynamic, and DBT.  Ultimately though, what I offer is a space for you to be yourself and explore what that means for you. My clients have told me that having someone to talk to and someone that listens to them is one of the things they find most helpful about counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

After a career in social work where I worked with vulnerable families and children, I was able to see that often people needed the space and time to talk about their life and to reflect on the different ways to manage their emotions. Therefore, I entered the world of counselling.

Previous experience

Counselling for a charity in Sandhurst, called Sandhurst Counselling Service,   supporting adults with a wide variety of concerns.
Counselling at a local charity in Reading called No5 working with young people age 11 to 18.

Over the last 18 months I have worked with CAMHS and I am fully aware of the challenges that mental health has on young people such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts along with negative thinking patterns.

I work with adults and young people aged 11+ for short or long term therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
