About me

Welcome.

There may be many reasons that brought you here today, or only one. Whatever the reason you are here know you have taken the first step to do something about what it is that’s keeping you from moving forward.  Thank you for stopping to look at my profile.

My name is Kym Winup and I am a Person-Centred Counsellor and member of the BACP (registration number 00918228). I am also a member of The Person-Centred Counselling Association. In addition, I am a qualified Life Coach (CPCAB). I am a Clinical Supervisor providing supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors.

I also hold a Certificate in ADHD Services Provider mainly working with adults with ADHD or parents of children with ADHD.

Whilst Academic qualifications are important background information, and of course will show that I am qualified, you will need to know more about me before you decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

Choosing the right counsellor is very important, whether you are looking for a counsellor for yourself, or as a couple. Some people will know exactly what they are looking for in a counsellor whilst others may be a bit unsure. You have made the decision to seek counselling - the first step. The next step is finding the right counsellor for you. It is a very important decision.

With the right counsellor, you will develop a strong therapeutic relationship. You will learn what a trusting relationship feels like. You can try new ways of relating in a safe space. You will be able to be your authentic self without having to impress or please someone else. You will be able to share things with someone who is impartial, non judgemental and wants the best for you.

My profile will tell you about my qualifications, my experience and my approach and from that you may be able to decide if I am the right counsellor for you, or as is more likely, you may want to find out more, in which case please feel free to contact me for a chat before you make any decision.

What I can tell you is that I will provide you with a safe place in which you can be brave, where you can grow and develop and overcome beliefs and behaviours that are preventing you from reaching your full potential.

I promise to be there for you every step of your journey.

I promise that our alliance will be safe and confidential.

I promise to remember that in our work together I am a guest in your world of experience and I will not judge you.

As a Person-Centred counsellor, I believe that you can be the best person you can be and that by working together you will become that version of yourself.

Before I became a counsellor I worked for many years in the education sector and then in Children’s Services, working with parents and families. This work led me to train as a counsellor, a role which encompassed all my knowledge, skills and experience.

My experience covers a wide range of areas including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, Self harm, infidelity, relationship issues, substance misuse, alcohol addiction, panic attacks, PTSD, bereavement, pet bereavement, work/school based stress and ADHD.

I provide a neutral, safe ground to individuals, families, and couples. We will work together to achieve your goals. My experience enables me to offer effective, individual, psychological care.

As a member of the BACP, I work within their ethical guidelines. I adhere to BACP guidance in relation to boundaries and confidentiality. I have regular supervision with a qualified supervisor to ensure I practice safely, ethically and within my competencies.

All sessions are online - I have had additional training in online therapy. I am a member of the Association of Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO) which is the leading organisation for online therapy and online therapists. Membership number 1468.

The benefits of online therapy are many. It’s convenient and flexible as it means you don’t have to travel saving you time and money. This is also helpful if your mental health, mobility or other issues make it difficult to leave the house, or if you live in a remote area. It means I can be more flexible in appointment times. You will be in the comfort of home - being able to sit in your living room with your favourite hot drink, in comfortable clothes, perhaps with a blanket or a pet by your side, can create a peaceful and relaxing setting, which can be therapeutic in itself. This can also make it easier for you to open up about what you’re going through. It affords greater privacy you don’t have to worry about encountering anyone in a waiting room or outside the mental health clinic. Your sessions will be conducted in complete privacy, with no risk of bumping into someone you know or being in a space with strangers when you’re feeling vulnerable.

Session fees are below.

Sessions are 50 minutes.

Please see my website for more information and updates.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration.
