About me

I believe that therapy doesn't have a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, the best method is the one that works best for you. Whether you're facing a current challenge or simply seeking support, I'm here to listen and offer guidance.

I am an experienced counselling psychotherapist originally from Liverpool, now based in East Devon. I offer remote support to clients worldwide, as well as in-person sessions on the beautiful Budleigh Beach. I can help with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, long-term health conditions, work-related stress, relationship issues, identity concerns and traumatic life events.

My therapeutic style is integrative and humanistic, rooted in the belief that every individual possesses the strength to shape their narrative. Drawing inspiration from fairy tales, I see each client's journey as that of a downtrodden protagonist seeking their own happy ever after. I don't claim to have a magical wand, but I do help to empower my clients to create their own happiness and break free from the negative patterns that may have been holding them back. I provide a supportive environment where clients can feel genuinely accepted and celebrated for who they are. We base our work together on trust, transparency, and acceptance. I think being real is essential for real progress.  Therefore, I promise to always be genuine and transparent with you.

I have experience and expertise in providing support to a diverse range of individuals and communities. I have had the privilege of working with gender, sexual, and relationship-diverse (GSRD) communities, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as military personnel, their families, and veterans. I understand the unique challenges and complexities that these different life situations can present, including the impact they can have on mental health and relationships. What truly sets me apart is my passion for helping individuals who have struggled to find adequate support in the past. I hold the belief that everyone should have access to therapy. My approach focuses on inclusivity and mutual respect. I understand the uniqueness of each individual and the importance of understanding their story from their perspective. That's why I provide various financial options and methods to participate in therapy.

In our work together, I aim to help you gain deeper self-understanding, develop effective coping mechanisms, and experience personal growth that leads to a more fulfilling life. Whether we meet on Budleigh Beach for outdoor sessions or remotely from across the globe, my dedication to providing a supportive and empowering therapeutic experience remains steadfast. Your voice and beliefs are valued and heard, as we work together to create positive change in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have enhanced my training as an integrative-humanistic counsellor through postgraduate study in psychology and my commitment to continuous personal and professional development. My qualifications include

  • PGCert in Psychological Therapies Practice (2023)
  • Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy (2020)
  • Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling (2019)
  • CPD Bereavement and Loss (2019)
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (2017)
  • MSc Psychological Research Methods (2015)
  • Mental Health Promotion NVQ4 (2014)
  • BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology (2009)

These qualifications provide me with a solid foundation to help individuals overcome a wide range of challenges, and I am dedicated to continuing my education to ensure that I remain up-to-date with the latest developments, tools and techniques that can hep you move towards your goals.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Single Session Therapy: Swift, Supportive, Transformative

Do you need urgent help with a specific issue? Single Session Therapy (SST) could be the solution. SST focuses on the issue you want to address in a single, dedicated session.

It is a quick, focused, and effective approach to therapy. Unlike traditional counselling, which often explores multiple issues over several sessions, SST hones in on one specific issue, providing more immediate attention and relief. This approach could be the key if you need urgent help, or if you're looking to experience counselling without committing to a long-term process.

The process begins with a simple conversation to see if we're a good fit. If we decide to proceed, I'll provide some paperwork to gather essential background information. This step is designed to help us focus our session on the issue that you wish to address.

The actual session is an intensive, respectful space built around your immediate needs. Whether you're managing a sudden life change, coping with heightened stress due to an upcoming event, or simply need a space to express and offload, SST can provide immediate strategies and tools to navigate these situations.

After the session, I'll send a follow-up email with additional resources and information tailored to your situation. If there are other issues you'd like to address but aren't ready to commit to traditional counselling, you're always welcome to arrange another standalone session at a later time.

SST appointments can typically be organised within a few days, providing the help you need quickly. It's a great option if you're waiting to see a counsellor and need some support in the meantime. It's also perfect if you're short on time, watching your budget, or if you prefer the idea of a one-off session as a mental health check-up.

Remember, each counselling journey is unique, and SST offers a flexible, tailored solution that aligns with your needs and circumstances

Diabetes Mental Wellbeing

Living with diabetes can be challenging, as it requires constant attention. As a type 1 insulin-dependent diabetic myself, I understand firsthand how diabetes can affect mental health throughout one's life. Unfortunately, there are limited resources available to those affected by this condition.

Both type 1 (no insulin production) and type 2 (limited insulin production) diabetes can be life-changing for those diagnosed, as well as for their families and carers. The initial diagnosis can bring about a range of emotions, including sadness, anger, grief, denial, anxiety, depression, and fear. These feelings may resurface over time.

I strongly believe that managing one's mental health is just as important as managing one's physical health when living with diabetes. Whether you've just been diagnosed or have been living with diabetes for a while, I am here to support you and your mental wellbeing throughout your journey. I know firsthand how long-term health conditions can take a toll on our mental health, and I am committed to helping you navigate any challenges that may arise in this regard.

And for those who find comfort in small pleasures, an ice cream on warmer days, or a coffee when it's cold, can add to the experience.
