About me

Hello, I'm Kate. I'm a UKCP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist working in Hackney, with 20 years' experience working with young people and adults. In addition to my private practice, I currently manage a secondary school counselling service, providing long and short-term therapy to 14-19-year-olds and adult staff members.

People of all ages, from adults to young individuals, arrive at my door seeking support for a variety of challenges. I have experience in helping clients navigate through depression, anxiety-related disorders, bereavement, body image issue, compulsive behaviours, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, and childhood trauma. Additionally, I specialise in assisting individuals who find themselves at crossroads in life, feeling stuck or facing difficult circumstances. Whatever the struggle may be, I am here to provide understanding and guidance on the path to healing and growth.

My therapeutic approach is all about building strong connections and creating a warm, empathetic, and supportive environment. As an integrative therapist, I tailor each session to meet the unique needs of my clients, using a gentle and non-directive approach. I combine different therapeutic methods, including person-centred therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, arts-based therapy, and offer grounding and mindfulness technique to individuals who struggle with anxiety. I pay close attention to the way our bodies hold onto trauma, which can play a crucial role in the healing process. Additionally, my previous experience as a wilderness therapy counsellor brings a special touch to my practice.

Sometimes, finding the right words to express our experiences or inner truth can be tough. In those moments, I encourage my clients to explore alternative forms of expression. We might try painting, sculpting, using symbolic cards, or create images and stories through sand tray work. These creative approaches not only make clients feel truly heard but also empower them to work through their trauma and internal struggles.

My work with young people:

With over 20 years of experience in the school system, I specialise in supporting young people through various challenges such as exam stress, self-esteem issues, school refusals, risky behaviours, and peer group problems. I understand the unique pressures young people face today, especially with social media in the picture. Additionally, I work with neurodivergent youth, providing personalised therapeutic interventions for their empowerment, and I am passionate about helping young individuals explore their identity, gender, and sexuality in a safe and non-judgmental space. By offering guidance and support, I help them develop a positive understanding of themselves. My priority is creating a nurturing environment where young minds can freely explore emotions for optimal well-being

Parent consultation:

I offer nonjudgmental guidance and support to parents, helping them build and repair relationships with their child or adolescent. During these parent consultation sessions, we can address a range of issues, including relationship dynamics, complex family dynamics, parenting challenges, and difficulties with children and teenagers.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training and Processional Body:

I am registered with member of UKCP, and trained at the Institute of Arts Therapy at Education, qualifying in 2009 as Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. I update my skills through annual safeguarding training and maintain a current DBS check which ensures safety for my clients. As a member of UKCP, I strictly adhere to their ethical guidelines, ensuring the provision of the highest standards of care.

When working with young people, I typically recommend an initial session with parents or guardians to understand their child's challenges. We can then discuss the frequency of check-in sessions to keep parents updated on their child's progress.
