About me

If you are struggling with your feelings and emotions and are looking for a safe space to explore what is going on for you, then counselling is a good place to start. Perhaps you are going through life changes and need time and a safe space to explore what is happening? I am aware that it has been a difficult time for many people, we have been through a strange time and there has been a big psychological impact. Anxiety, anger issues, bereavement, domestic abuse or relationship difficulties can take a toll.

Perhaps you are a parent looking for support for a child with mental health difficulties? It is difficult to see your child struggling - as an experienced children and young person's counsellor I might be able to help.

How can working with me make a difference? I am an experienced counsellor. I offer a non-judgemental, safe space for you to explore what has brought you to counselling. I will work with you to understand what is causing your distress and help you to develop strategies to improve your life and well-being, using a range of techniques that are adapted to suit you and your needs. I work with both adults, children, young people, and adolescents.

Parents looking for a therapist to work with their child or adolescent should email to discuss how work might be approached, and clarify all aspects of confidentiality, risk assessment and safeguarding.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Following an early career in education where I worked as a secondary school teacher, I began training in Person-Centred Counselling in 2007. I was awarded a Diploma in Counselling in February 2011. I value Rogers’ basic principles as the foundation for productive and successful therapeutic work, while exploring a variety of other techniques, such as Play Therapy, to enhance the work that I do.

In 2014 I achieved BACP accreditation and also completed a Diploma in Counselling Supervision, following an integrative approach which incorporates the Person-Centred model, with elements of Kadushin and Carroll.

In addition, I completed a specialist Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People in December 2015, following the SPICC model (Sequentially Planned Integrative counselling for Children).

I have a lot of experience working with both adults and children , working with a variety of presenting issues, including suicidal risk and self-harm.

Currently, I have a private practice providing supervision and counselling in Southport, Merseyside, and run training courses for counsellors specialising in work with children and young people, most recently using an online platform, and have provided risk workshops for the BACP CPD programme.
