About me
Explore Your World
I see the value counselling gives to people on a daily basis. In today's world there are many issues to face and I can offer a safe space where you have the opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, develop coping strategies and make the changes you choose to make.
I offer therapy sessions for couples and families who are facing struggles and wish to work collaboratively to find solutions and build stronger relationships. I have experience working with young people [age 11+] and adults who present with a variety of issues including, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, self-harm, physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and grief
I offer supervision to students and fellow counsellors, this work has grown and developed from many years of practice experience supporting students in placement in charitable organisations like Changing Lives and Mind
Sessions are available daytime and evenings. Each session is an hour and we would agree together the number of sessions
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified as a counsellor in 2006 and have continued working as a counsellor for the past 17 years which means as a practitioner I have gained many hours of skills experience
I completed a supervision qualification in 2009 and offer clinical supervision as part of my practice. I became an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) in 2013
I have extensive knowledge and understanding of women's issues (having worked in women's services) such as domestic abuse, childhood and adult sexual abuse issues, confidence and low self-esteem issues. I also have experience working with young people in therapy.
My skills have continually developed through my work experience and training. I offer an integrative approach which means that I can pull from a variety of counselling skills and techniques across different theoretical models in order to help clients.
For the past 6 years I have managed Changing Lives and Doncaster Mind counselling service, which includes working with a variety of mental health issues with both male and female adult clients.
In more recent years I have completed a BA in Counselling solutions and an MA in relationship therapy
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
