About me

Welcome. During these unsettling times I am offering online psychotherapy. As a Movement Psychotherapist, my aim is to create a safe, warm and sensitive environment in which a person feels met and supported to begin to take steps towards healing or change. I trust the human imagination can contribute to working things out when all seems lost.

How I Work: An Integrative Approach to Working with Body and Mind

I offer psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and children.  My psychotherapy training is to Masters level, this enables a depth of understanding and reflection to bring to my practice. I also have a background in Occupational Therapy working within Adult Mental Health Services, and Child and Adolescent Mental Health. I integrate my experience and training as an Occupational Therapist within my clinical work as a Movement Psychotherapist. My theoretical approach is integrative, blending humanistic, psychodynamic, attachment theory and sensory-motor approach to psychotherapy.  It is an embodied, relational and flexible approach that honors the uniqueness of each individual and values both body and mind. This embodied approach to psychotherapy provides opportunities to work with the whole person: thoughts, belief systems and emotions, and how these may be experienced in the body.  A broad spectrum of scientific evidence is now highlighting how these aspects are interconnected.  Neurobiological research has shown that memories are associated with sensations and become stored within the body.  These body memories become our embodied histories and may impact on our way of being in the present and how we perceive ourselves.  This is particularly relevant when there is a history of trauma.

An Embodied Approach to Psychotherapy:

Do I need to have experience in movement based approaches/ practices?

Working with an embodied approach to psychotherapy offers not only the opportunity to think about change but to move towards change.  There is not a requirement to have experience in movement-based approaches/practices, movement occurs in stillness also. When words are not enough, working with the body can facilitate finding meaning and understanding, towards healing or change. This embodied approach is blended with verbal reflection for sense making and further clarity.

I trust the human imagination can contribute to working things out when all seems lost. Movement Psychotherapy can help with crisis or difficulties with long-term emotional problems. This therapeutic modality can also be helpful when the aim is to make better choices and live better lives.

Clinical Supervision

I offer Clinical Supervision to counselors, psychotherapists, support workers across modalities, and to various organisations. I also provide personal growth and professional development (CPD) sessions with the aim of nurturing greater levels of spontaneity, creativity and body awareness.
