About me

Are you struggling or feeling overwhelmed with day-to-day tasks? Do you feel the person you once were is a distant memory? Has anxiety, depression, maternal mental health or perimenopause/menopause been like an explosive grenade going off in your life, leaving you confused, angry and in emotional turmoil questioning many aspects of your life?

My name is Joanne, and I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I specialise in women's mental health,  and I want you to know you are not alone. One in five of us will have or are suffering from a common mental health problem. As women, we can feel we are just expected to get on with it, do it all and not look like we are failing, which can lead us to feel isolated and unseen.

Counselling can help, we can work together to make sense of what you're going through and understand that how you are feeling is not your end destination.  You can become empowered to take back control and move forwards with confidence and begin living life on your terms.

Peri-menopause/Menopause and maternal mental health problems can leavemany women feeling emotionally overwhelmed and conscious that they have gone from feeling even-tempered and happy to fluctuating between anger, irritability, and crying. Many report they feel like they have lost who they thought they were, and are often left questioning, if they will ever return to the person they once were, or if she has gone forever.

During menopause many women grieve for the loss of their fertility, having the choice to have a baby now taken away. Menopause symptoms can be compounded by ‘empty nest syndrome’- when your children leave home for university or permanently, resulting in women feeling redundant and questioning their meaning and purpose.

I offer both face-to-face and online counselling sessions. As an integrative counsellor, I will tailor your therapy to suit your individual needs and personal circumstances.

I believe the most crucial part of success in therapy is the relationship between the client and their therapist. Developing a trusting and safe bond will enable you to talk through whatever difficulties you are experiencing. I will listen in a compassionate non-judgmental manner and offer you the time to explore your innermost thoughts and feelings

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
