About me

Hello! I'm Jennifer, I'm a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I offer a creative, authentic, and collaborative approach to counselling and psychotherapy.

I work in person from a comfortable and convenient location in London Bridge, a short walk from both London Bridge and Borough stations.

Perhaps you’ve arrived at therapy through a sense of feeling “stuck”, a traumatic life crisis (past or present), or something else entirely. Whatever your reasons, I admire your decision to seek help, as taking the first step can be difficult.

The next step

I invite you to book a free 15-minute phone call without further commitment. We'll use this time to chat informally and discuss what's bringing you to therapy. This is useful to help both of us decide if it makes sense for us to work together.

Please get in touch via email to arrange a time or book a call directly via my Calendly link: https://calendly.com/jenniferpirtle/15-min-introductory-call

About my approach and how I work

My approach is integrative, meaning I draw on numerous ‘schools’ of therapy and psychological theory tailored to my client's needs at any time. How I work will be slightly different with every person.

I am American by birth and a Londoner for more than two decades. I value an open, direct approach underpinned by genuine warmth and care. Our sessions are a non-judgemental place for you to bring all aspects of yourself – even those you may have previously kept hidden, whether consciously or unconsciously. I am LGBTQ+ friendly.

Alongside talking therapy, depending on the client, we may utilise creative modalities, including mindfulness, breathwork, visualisation, imagery, archetypes, dream exploration, journaling and art materials. By bypassing the ‘rational’ mind, these creative practices can often unlock and powerfully shift things in ways that talk therapy alone cannot.

I have experience working with a wide variety of physical and emotional issues including anxiety, panic attacks and depression, grief and bereavement, pregnancy loss, body image issues, loneliness, suicidal ideation, sexual assault and trauma, lack of motivation, low self-worth, and low self-esteem. I am especially interested in life transitions, such as career change, pregnancy, divorce, midlife, and retirement.

I welcome you fully and look forward to walking alongside you on your therapeutic journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training: I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist (PGDip from the Centre of Counselling and Psychotherapy (CCPE), an intensive five-year post-graduate training program). I also hold a Foundation in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Regents College. I also bring more than two decades of writing about health and wellness as a widely-published journalist.

Other experience:
In addition to my private practice work, I have also worked at HQ Therapy, Headstrong Counselling, and FreshStart Psychotherapy. Previously, I supported individuals via NHS Islington, the Maytree Respite Centre (clients experiencing suicidal ideation) and Choices Islington (clients facing unplanned pregnancies and new motherhood). I regularly undertake continuing professional development through workshops and courses in my field and have

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
