About me

What can I do to help you?

Well, imagine a therapy session where every fleeting moment can be a step toward greater clarity. As a psychotherapist and an avid Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, I excel in capturing these moments and showing them to you, helping you find focus in both the therapy room and your everyday life.

Having rowed competitively for 9 years and competed in the Henley Royal Regatta, I experienced firsthand the high-stress and competitive demands of trying to balance a high stress job in a scientific publishing house with a time consuming and demanding sport. The stress of these two led me to believe that there must be a better way. So, I left my career and changed my hobby to find more balance, meaning, and control of my life.

It’s my job to create a space where you can explore who you are and grow. It’s a space where you are free to explore your identity, your desires, and somewhere you can gain the clarity you need to make transformative life decisions. Here's what one client has to say about their experience: 'I feel comfortable talking to James. I'm able to be myself, and I don't feel judged. He listens and comments to encourage me to discover more about myself and my potential.'

So, if you are feeling overwhelmed by the stresses and demands of your career, and you find yourself dreaming of a more balanced life but unsure of where to start, I offer a zero-cost, 20-minute consultation to help you take the first step towards reclaiming your well-being.

I work with a range of people from different cultural backgrounds with diverse issues, including:

·        Self-esteem and confidence

·        Anxiety

·        Depression

·        Sexuality

·        Trauma

·        Abuse

·        Bereavement

·        Loneliness

·        Masculinity and men’s issues

·        Women’s issues

·        Relationship issues

·        Grief

My fees are £60 per clinical hour (50 minutes) but the first session is £40.

I am an experienced BACP registered psychotherapist (400859) and I offer person-centred counselling.

I offer both online and in-person sessions. In-person sessions will be held at Argyle House in Exeter.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
