About me

Hello, my name is James. I'm passionate in supporting individuals to gain a deeper insight and understanding into their lives. Because we're all unique with different needs and approaches to life, my therapy services will reflect your individuality - as an integrative counsellor I use a range of counselling skills and methodologies to best suit your needs.

I believe everyone has the ability to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, to grow, and to heal. To do this, we’ll work together to create a therapeutic relationship - this is where the healing can really begin as this will help you to feel safe and empowered, leading you to make better sense of life and leaving you feeling more able to make your own decisions. I believe in the power of an individual's inner strength - I will listen to you and give you space to find this strength. I will use my training and experience, but also my humanity and personality – I care about individuals, and want to provide an environment where people feel accepted and heard.

You can find out more about my experience and counselling approach as you scroll down this page.

  • NHS (KMPT) Inter-Psyche Training Institute Level 6 - Diploma in Integrative Counselling
  • BSc Social Psychology

  • BACP and the Open University - Video and phone counselling 2.0: advancing your knowledge

I have provided counselling face-to-face, online, and over the phone in a GP practice in Kent, working with common and complex mental health issues (e.g anxiety and depression). I also have experience of supporting young people on a national helpline.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

You might be reaching out for counselling because you're struggling with your mental health. Perhaps life is feeling overwhelming. Or you just need a safe space to get things off your chest. However complicated, difficult, or upsetting things might be, there's support available for you from Inner Insight Counselling.

I have over a decade of experience offering support to others. I am a registered member of the BACP and am insured, DBS-checked, and ICO registered.

Inner Insight Counselling

We’ll embark on a journey together where I follow you along the pathway of your life. You’ll help me understand the pathway we’re walking down, what the surroundings look like, and what the journey feels like.

When we come to any crossroads, we’ll look at what lies ahead – we’ll work towards empowering you to make a decision about which route feels the most comfortable to follow. This might include focussing on how to reframe how you think about approaching the next path in front of you. There will be times when we look back along the path you’ve walked, helping us to make sense of all the twists and turns that has brought you to this point. At times the journey might not make sense, and you might even feel unsure about what choices you have made whilst on your journey.

Others might have accompanied you on the journey until now, with others joining you further along the path. Some of these relationships might help your journey, others might hinder your journey.

Regardless of how long we work together, I hope you’re able to take strength from the experience to help you as you progress along your own path.
