About me

Hi, my name is Jackie Barlow MBACP I am a Person Centred counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). I offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, via online platform, face to face or telephone. I am here to support you on your journey of self-discovery. Life can be challenging at times and overwhelming. It can be a struggle to hold it all together. Having someone to explore your thoughts with can help you to make sense of things, to get back to living life the way you want to.  Investing in yourself is the best investment you can make. The fundamentals of the  Person Centred Approach is that you are the expert on yourself and your life. Given the right conditions, the answers can be found within yourself. You can become more self-aware, more confident in trusting your own decisions and increase self-esteem, free from the judgement of others.

It can be difficult choosing the right therapist for your needs and it's important that we 'gel'. I offer a free short initial meeting to see if you think I may be the right person to help. There's no obligation and I'm happy to answer any questions to help you to make that decision. I remember well the feeling of looking at all those profile photos and wondering what to base my decision on!

Training, qualifications & experience

I studied and gained my diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College. I have regular supervision for ethical practice and undertake regular CPD in line with BACP guidelines to enhance my practice. I have worked with male survivors of sexual abuse and rape, both historically and recently. I also have experience working with clients whose lives are affected by cancer, be this personally, or by family or friends.

I have worked with many presenting issues, such as trauma, feelings of guilt or shame, childhood and adult sexual and physical abuse, rehabilitation after prison, illness, bereavement, cancer and anticipatory grief to name but a few. I also have a special interest in supporting women going through the menopause and the impact on relationships. Another area which is close to my heart is supporting clients through pet bereavement. I feel that this can be an overwhelming  experience of loss and a time when counselling can be valuable in recognising this impact.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
