About me

Welcome to a space of understanding, healing, and growth. I am Irina, a dedicated Humanistic Integrative Therapist, and I commend you for the bravery it takes to seek support.

I offer individual counselling in central Bristol- Queen Square and Redcliffe. I also work online with clients based anywhere.

The decision to seek therapy is a significant step, marking the beginning of a path toward not just overcoming challenges but also finding a deeper, more fulfilling connection with oneself and others. Searching for a therapist might be experienced as an intimidating and difficult task, especially when life is complicated as it is already. I have been there myself and learned that finding the right therapist for you helps to co-create the relationship that is at the heart of the success of your therapeutic process.

When you feel overwhelmed, unfocused, fearful, angry, deeply sad, lost, disconnected, spiralling on thoughts or hooked on certain behaviours, it can be helpful to have someone supportive alongside you.

If you feel that the support offered by a friend or family member is too much for them, or not enough for you, counselling provides a safe space where you can access an understanding that runs deeper than words. I have personally experienced the difference that having a non-judgemental, interested and empathic therapist beside me can make in life and I would like to offer that back.

Embarking on your therapeutic journey will help you gather the strengths and skills needed to overcome a range of difficulties such as anxiety, stress, depression, unhealthy and often self-destructive behaviours, addiction, relationship difficulties, significant life changes or broadly surfing the waves of life. The results of therapy can be immensely rewarding, transformative, empowering and can lead to shifts in the way we feel about ourselves and others. The therapeutic experience can also facilitate a more palpable sense of meaning and purpose or a finer alignment of your own needs.

As your therapist, my goal is to support you on this journey, to facilitate your exploration and expand your understanding of your experience.

My approach

My approach is grounded in Humanistic Integrative Therapy, which views you as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms or issues. This perspective allows us to explore your experiences, emotions, and thoughts in a holistic manner, encouraging self-discovery and the realization of your full potential.

I place great value on the relationship, working with you in mind, and I believe that ‘The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives’ (Esther Perel). I aim to create a trusting and non-judgemental relationship that helps you to increase your awareness of what might be happening in your life, how you might move forwards to a more satisfying place, and how to heal yourself.

I have a special interest in identity, sense of self, and diversity. I welcome diversity and would like to honour the uniqueness of you.

I enjoy working creatively, incorporating elements of compassion and mindfulness. My approach is tailored to your needs, helping you navigate what is relevant for you. Through our work together we’ll both explore your story with empathy and curiosity, aiming to understand what had happened to you in the past,  how this might be affecting your present and what makes you tick.

Contact

I work with individual adult clients (18+ years) and offer long- and short-term therapy sessions.

I offer a free 30 min online initial consultation. This is an opportunity for us to discuss what brings you to therapy or answer any questions you might have. That will give both of us a sense of the prospect of working together. Following this, if you feel that we are a good fit, we will agree to meet regularly at a time and day that suits us both.

If you would like to find out more and arrange an initial appointment with me, please feel free to contact me via email or visit my website www.irinacounselling.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a qualified counsellor trained at the Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy, level 6 equivalent, which is a BACP and UKCP accredited course.
  • I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), abiding by their Ethical Framework, and a recognised healthcare provider for WPA.
  • I also hold a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) certificate from Oxford Mindfulness Foundation and studied law (LL.M).

As a counsellor, I've worked with a generous range of people including those experiencing: anxiety, addiction, negative self-perception, decreased sense of self, depression, abusive relationships, personal boundary issues, trauma, terminal illness, loss, social stigma or discrimination.

I have provided counselling for more than three years at The Swan Project,  a charity that provides counselling primarily to those affected by addiction. I have gained the understanding that addiction benefits from a trauma informed approach, as it is often a way of trying to cope with human suffering.

My path to becoming a therapist was inspired by my own experiences and the transformative impact of empathic, non-judgmental support. With a background in law and further training at the Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I bring a unique blend of analytical skills and emotional intelligence to my practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
