About me

I have come to counselling and psychotherapy as my second career after spending over 25 years in the corporate sector as part of the human resources function for global technology companies.  My desire and ability to connect with people combined with a quest to find deeper meaning in my work led me to retrain and find my true vocation. I have navigated challenging life experiences and have grown and found peace through my own personal therapy.

I’m versatile in my clinical approach, drawing from a rich theoretical foundation having trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist.  I welcome the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds. I understand what it means to be at the intersection of cultures, beliefs, and values and how challenging life can feel.

As an integrative therapist, we're not limited to a single approach of therapy. I pull on a number of approaches to develop and offer us the opportunity to collaboratively find our own unique way. I provide a safe space for us to work with your past, present and future - to help you find patterns and meaning in your life, to feel supported and, at times, challenged.  Much of the therapy I offer is an exploration of what makes you who you are. I am also a Mindfulness Coach and offer Mindfulness techniques in sessions that include guided meditations and journaling.

I have experience working with clients who seek help for a range of emotional difficulties, including anxiety, depression, low mood, panic attacks, family and relationship issues, grief & loss. I also work with a domestic violence agency, counselling women who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual abuse, anxiety/panic, low self-esteem, and PTSD. I have supported clients that have presented Multicultural concerns covering a broad range of topics and identities including race, religion, ethnicity, culture and, sexual orientation.

How therapy can help:

Therapy is a very personal process. It gives you the chance to explore your thoughts, behaviour, and emotions in a safe and impartial setting, outside your usual circles of family and friends, and with a trained professional whom you can trust to keep things confidential. As well as helping to ease emotional difficulties or destructive behavioural patterns, it can lead to deep and long-lasting changes allowing you to move forward with increased confidence and resource to meet life's challenges, and a greater openness to new experiences.

My approach:

I hope to create a safe, confidential, and empathic space for you to express the difficult feelings and experiences you are facing without fearing judgement. We will work at your pace and a style that suits your needs.

I offer a free 20-minute telephone/online consultation to allow us the chance to determine if we are the right fit for each other. If you think you would like to work with me, you can book a session or free consultation by calling me 07876757403 or emailing sujatha@empathics.co.uk.  I aim to reply to enquiries within 24 hours during workdays.

Sessions are delivered online or in person in Ashford, Surrey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I believe that clients themselves are constantly evolving and adapting, feeding from past experience and present stimulation. As an Integrative therapist I adapt and integrate different techniques and tailor what best suits you and your presenting issues. I am also a Mindfulness Coach and offer Mindfulness techniques in sessions that include guided meditations and journaling.

In my experience, the impact of psychotherapy is largely based on what is right for each person. There can be a feeling of letting go, releasing something or discovering inner resources. A clearer understanding or way forwards can be revealed. If there are old patterns that no longer have a use, they can shift. New ways of living or being can be found and more of yourself can transpire. I believe a collaborative approach to therapy places the emphasis on honesty, respect, and empowerment for both therapist and client. By working together as partners in the therapeutic relationship, clients are able to engage in meaningful conversation about what they want to change.
