About me
I understand that seeking therapy or counselling is a big step.
You may be feeling stuck, depressed or anxious, you may have experienced past trauma that still needs attention, or perhaps you wish to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is focused on understanding how early experiences and relationships might continue to affect us and hold us back. A strong therapeutic relationship or "alliance" will allow difficult feelings to be felt and explored safely, which can lead to profound change.
I work with clients on an open-ended basis, or for a fixed number of sessions (usually 12).
I work in both South Norwood, SE25 and from a consulting room in the City, close to Monument tube and 10 minutes walk from London Bridge and Liverpool St stations. I also offer online sessions. For face-to face work, I currently only have availability in the City. However, do still get in touch if you're looking for a therapist in SE25 as I am likely to have more spaces in South Norwood over the coming weeks and months.
I can offer a free 15-20 minute phone call, so you can get a sense of whether you would like to work with me, and so I can understand a little about what is bringing you to therapy and how I might help.
I adhere to the codes of ethics of the professional bodies to which I belong (UKCP, BPC, FPC).
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed a rigorous four year postgraduate training in psychodynamic theory and practice at WPF Therapy, one of the UK's leading therapy and training providers. I am registered with UKCP and BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council). I am also a member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC).
Alongside my private practice, I have two years' experience of working psychodynamically with clients in the NHS, as part of South London and Maudsley Trust.
I have experience counselling primary aged children through Place2Be, where I was a counsellor on placement. I am also a qualified secondary school teacher, and have experience of working therapeutically with older teens and young adults.
I have experience working with those in suicidal crisis through the charity Maytree, which offers a residential stay to people feeling suicidal.
My previous qualifications include a BA Philosophy and an MA in Journalism.
I am bilingual and can work in English and French.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
