About me
I'm Emmanuelle, and I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling in English and French in Croydon, in the City of London, and online.
Whatever you are bringing, whoever you are, you are welcome.
You might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, depressed or anxious. Or perhaps there are painful or traumatic experiences from your past that still need some attention. Maybe you simply wish to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your identity or your relationships in order to live life more fully and authentically.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy can help.
This kind of therapy focuses on how what we are experiencing in the present might be linked to early experiences and relationships, and how and why we might repeat patterns and find ourselves stuck. All of this can be explored and thought about in the context of a solid, confidential therapeutic relationship. This isn't a "quick-fix" therapy aimed simply at alleviating symptoms - it goes deeper and tackles problems at their root cause, which can effect meaningful and lasting change leading to a real improvement in your mental health.
I usually work with clients on an open-ended basis, which means you decide how long the therapy lasts. Where appropriate, I can also offer a fixed number of sessions (usually 12) where there is a single, identified issue you want to work on.
I have spaces available at my Croydon location, right by East Croydon Station, beginning in July.
I have limited spaces available now at my City location, close to Monument tube and 10 minutes walk from London Bridge and Liverpool St stations.
I also have availability online.
I can offer a free 15-20 minute phone call, so you can get a sense of whether you would like to work with me, and so I can understand a little about what is bringing you to therapy and how I might help.
I adhere to the codes of ethics of the professional bodies to which I belong (BPC, FPC, BACP).
🇫🇷 Je suis bilingue et nous pouvons travailler ensemble en français, en anglais, ou un mélange des deux. 🇫🇷
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed a rigorous four year postgraduate training in psychodynamic theory and practice at WPF Therapy, accredited by the University of Roehampton. I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and BACP. I am also a member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC). I adhere to all of these organisations' ethical codes.
Alongside my private practice, I have experience of working psychodynamically with clients in the NHS, as part of South London and Maudsley Trust.
I have experience counselling primary aged children through Place2Be, where I was a counsellor on placement. I am also a qualified secondary school teacher and have experience of working with older teens and young adults.
I worked with clients in suicidal crisis through the charity Maytree, which offers a residential stay to people feeling suicidal.
I have a previous career in journalism and continue to write and edit articles about psychotherapy and psychoanalysis alongside my therapy practice.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
