About me

Hello, it's really important that you feel seen and heard and I am here to do that for you. I work with clients to help them see and hear themselves as well as seek what they need in relationships with others. If you are finding something in your life challenging that you want to explore or you're finding something from your past is causing you an issue then therapy may be helpful. You may find it beneficial to explore ways to manage your symptoms; find closure and become unstuck or reconnect with parts of yourself you have lost or never discovered. Sometimes just talking it through with someone can be a really good start.

How might therapy help?

Therapy is very much a process. One you have already begun by considering whether therapy is for you. Therapy is not a magic wand that fixes everything but it can give you the power to move forward and just be. I believe everyone has the potential to work through what ever their issues are and sometimes you need support to do this.

I offer both short and long term counselling and psychotherapy. I can be of help if you are looking for tools to cope with your current circumstances; wanting to explore past experiences and heal; or get in touch with your true self to understand and potentially change your patterns. It may be you are not sure what you want from therapy yet but just feel you need to start somewhere. I can offer you the space and understanding to gain awareness of what you need and support you to make the changes you want at your own pace.

My approach to working with clients

My integrative model is based around Gestalt theory blending some Psychodynamic and CBT/Narrative thinking. Put simply I focus on what is happening in the therapy room, what is happening in your life and what has happened in your past to identify themes and patterns in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to help you become aware of them. I work relationally which means I believe in being authentic and I want to make contact with you and your needs whilst encouraging you to do the same. I am aware that everyone is different and my aim is to create a space where you feel able to explore these differences and find an approach that works for you. I believe we have different parts of ourselves which sometimes work together and other times are in conflict which causes us distress. By giving these parts space and time to have their say we can work to find a way they can work together. I often work with clients to help them seek out parts of themselves that may be out of contact and calling out to be heard in some way. I aim to help you contact and work at accepting all parts of yourself. This can be challenging at times but with support and care this is possible.

What happens next?

If you do get in touch we will arrange a 20 minute phone call to discuss why you are seeking therapy, how I may be able to help you and organise a first session. In the first session I will ask you some questions about your history and discuss how we will work together. Following this we will begin to explore whatever you want help with. Often the first few sessions are about us figuring out if and how we will work together and if either of us decide it's not quite right then we can discuss other options.

Please note: I will always reply to enquiries. Please check your spam folder if you've sent an email enquiry and you've not had a reply within 2 days.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully accredited member of UKCP and a registered member of BACP. I have completed an MSc in Intergrative Psychotherapy, an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies and a Certificate in Professional Psychotherapy Practice. I have 3 years of experience working with a wide range of clients both face to face and remotely presenting with anxiety, depression and trauma. I have experience working with specific issues such as grief, abuse, gender, disability and neurodivergence.

Along with my psychotherapy training I draw from my experience of working in special needs education for 10 years where I have focused on supporting communication needs. This has helped me develop an understanding of learning differences and the importance of patience, creativity and a touch of humor when exploring new and old ideas.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
