About me

Thank you for visiting my profile, you have made the first, big step. I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor with extensive experience working in the largest counselling organisation in Gloucestershire.

In my private practice I work with individuals and families by offering counselling services in a safe, confidential and contemporary atmosphere near the centre of Dursley.

I specialise in trauma; emotional and physical abuse related counselling and anxiety. I have extensive experience with male and female survivors of sexual violation.

Counselling is offered on time limited and open ended basis, with individuals and families as follows:

Individual counselling:

Life events, both recent and in the past, could leave you with strong, unmanageable emotions, anxiety and even attacks of panic and phobias. I work with an approach, which emphasises that living with trauma and addictions on a continuous, possibly daily basis could fundamentally change the way we respond to life’s challenges, opportunities and demands.

I look forward to welcoming you the way you have adapted to your unique challenges; concentrate our immediate attention on what is most urgent for you and look into potentially broadening the exploration towards the roots of it all and the possible way forward.

Family counselling:

I am an accredited supportive family therapist with extensive experience with a leading family support organisation in Stroud. I have been supporting families for over 20 years and specialise with families with children from 1 to 11 years old. I offer home visits for supportive family therapy.

My family therapeutic approach emphasises on the family as a living organism. Within the family unit some troubling symptoms could have developed as an adaptive response to various underlying issues, as well as serving a purpose for the survival of the unit. We begin with the symptom, as our guide to understanding some aspects of the family dynamics. Understanding could lead to exploration of alternatives, alternatives - to increased adaptability to change and ability to move forward.

Individual clients testimonials:

‘Elena's ability to listen and understand my problems is admiring. She lets me express my feelings so freely, and I never thought I could have my life back. Her calming presence relaxed me and I felt confident to speak about my problem, knowing I was not judged at all. Elena helped me so much, that I recommend her 10/10.’

‘I came to Elena feeling very down and worried about my position in life. She talked to me and I calmed down from the first meeting, after that each meeting we explored my problems and slowly I started to feel better and my confidence started to grow. I only wish I’d started to go to counselling earlier, I’m so pleased I found a counsellor like Elena. I really look forward to my sessions each week, highly recommended.’

'Hello! I would like to share my impression of my sessions with Elena Dunn. I contacted her for help with accumulated psychological tiredness, as well as unexplained physical pains all over my body. I wanted to discover the reasons for that and to try and overcome a difficult period in my life.We met for 6 sessions and from the very beginning I felt relaxed and trusted Elena with narrative about events in my life - both present and in the past. Very delicately she directed me to explore the origin of those emotions, feelings and sensations, which were troubling me, affecting my physical health as well. I was very impressed that she would not give me direct advice, but would lead the conversation towards me realising the roots of the issues. I impatiently waited for our sessions and am still benefitting from those analysis in my everyday life. I am so grateful for her professional help, deep analysis and psychological intuition during those difficult times.'

‘I took my daughter to Elena. We were having a lot of problems; she was having a lot of trouble at school with bullying etc, she would not talk to us about. Elena seemed to be able to talk to her and bring it all out, we are so grateful to her. Recommended’

'I must admit we started counselling with some amount of scepticism, perhaps in part due to our religious background and wondering whether counselling could be of any help. We were pleasantly surprised by the kind, lovely personality of Elena, who put us incredibly at ease and our children loved the time they spend there. God bless her, counselling was hugely beneficial thanks to her."
