About me

I am a psychodynamic counsellor working with adults and families in the Cotswolds town of Dursley. I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which we can work together to think about the issues that you are troubling you. I look forward to welcoming your concerns and understanding of the problem; concentrate our immediate attention on what is most urgent for you and look into potentially broadening the exploration towards the roots of it all and the possible way forward.

I offer regular weekly sessions on an open-ended or time-limited basis. We will work at your pace and we can regularly review your progress and your thoughts and feelings about the work we do together. If you would like more information about my practice and what I can offer please see my website.

If you would like to get in touch to talk about how I can help you, please call or email me. After an initial free conversation over the phone we can arrange your first initial consultation. This session is an opportunity for you to see if we would be able to work together and for you to ask me any questions you may have about counselling.

Some of the areas, which we would aim to cover during your First Session would be:

1. Your concerns in more details

2. Enquiries about your historic and present circumstances

3. Information about how I work

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Individual clients testimonials:

‘Elena's ability to listen and understand my problems is admiring. She lets me express my feelings so freely, and I never thought I could have my life back. Her calming presence relaxed me and I felt confident to speak about my problem, knowing I was not judged at all. Elena helped me so much, that I recommend her 10/10.’

‘I came to Elena feeling very down and worried about my position in life. She talked to me and I calmed down from the first meeting, after that each meeting we explored my problems and slowly I started to feel better and my confidence started to grow. I only wish I’d started to go to counselling earlier, I’m so pleased I found a counsellor like Elena. I really look forward to my sessions each week, highly recommended.’

'Hello! I would like to share my impression of my sessions with Elena Dunn. I contacted her for help with accumulated psychological tiredness, as well as unexplained physical pains all over my body. I wanted to discover the reasons for that and to try and overcome a difficult period in my life.We met for 6 sessions and from the very beginning I felt relaxed and trusted Elena with narrative about events in my life - both present and in the past. Very delicately she directed me to explore the origin of those emotions, feelings and sensations, which were troubling me, affecting my physical health as well. I was very impressed that she would not give me direct advice, but would lead the conversation towards me realising the roots of the issues. I impatiently waited for our sessions and am still benefitting from those analysis in my everyday life. I am so grateful for her professional help, deep analysis and psychological intuition during those difficult times.'
