About me

I am friendly and approachable and really want to hear about what’s troubling you so we can work out together how things can change for you. I also work with children and young people and have training in a number of different disciplines which you may find helpful. I work countrywide online and in-person in Angus and Aberdeenshire.

I am happy to work with whatever is troubling you. I have previously been able to help people who have experienced many difficulties including sexual, emotional or physical abuse (including childhood sexual abuse), trauma (including PTSD and dissociative symptoms), eating disorders, addiction (including problems with alcohol), gender identity, racial abuse, bereavement, long–term illness, menopause, anxiety, depression, spiritual crisis and existential matters, family and relationship problems, climate anxiety, self-harming, suicidal thoughts and low self-esteem.  I have also worked with neurodiverse individuals, including children, on a variety of issues and members of the LGBTQI+ community.

Please do get in touch if you wish to enquire further – absolutely no strings attached – it is often good to sound out a few therapists before deciding which one fits best.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am trained in person-centred therapy (MSc in Person-Centred Counselling: Children, Young People and Adults from the University of Aberdeen) but work in a very integrative way, finding out collaboratively what works best for you.

As well as working privately: I provide counselling for survivors of sexual abuse for a local charity; I provide counselling for children and young people via a charity promoting equality; I am a SSSC registered care worker; I facilitate support groups for a national charity for people with a terminal condition.

I am also a trained yoga teacher (BWY-Level 4 diploma (500 hr)) focussing on teaching mindfulness, meditation and relaxation.  I can incorporate this in our sessions if you feel that is right for you. I also have training in CBT, Transactional Analysis and nutrition (PGDip – University of Aberdeen). I specialise in plant-based diets. Having worked as a scientist for many years (BSc(Hons) Environmental Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh; Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology), I can also be very solution focussed where appropriate.

Member organisations

COSCA
College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSCA)

COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC.

It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
