About me

I am a person centred counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults. I know you are here for a reason. You may be experiencing symptoms such as anxiety and depression or low self-esteem. You may be unhappy with your partner or other significant relationships. You may have a problem that seems to have no solution or have intrusive thoughts that make you feel trapped and unable to make progress. Maybe you are dealing with a significant life event such as divorce, losing a job, a serious health diagnosis or the death of someone important to you. Perhaps you lack meaning and purpose in your life. We are all unique in terms of life experience and what impacts on our life but whatever your current difficultly, talking through the situation with an empathic and qualified counsellor like myself can help.

I can offer you a confidential, safe, professional and above all a non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings, to get to know yourself in a new and helpful way, and to find change and increased satisfaction with your life where you will learn to manage whatever it is that brought you to counselling.

I will seek to work with you in a collaborative way, recognising that you are the expert in you. I am able to adapt my approach to meet your needs due to my experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist and the type of training I received.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an MA (with distinction) in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the University of Leeds. My training was relational and integrative. This means that we focussed on the importance of human relationships as a means by which we can learn and change, and studied different types of approaches and how we might bring them together to help our clients.

I have managed a bereavement and general counselling service in North Yorkshire, with my own client caseload as well as managing other counsellors and student counsellors on placement.

I have worked with clients who have experienced abusive relationships, including domestic abuse, addiction, self-harm and clients with depression and anxiety. I have supported clients impacted by suicide, following the loss of a baby or child, pregnancy loss and many other types of sudden and unexpected death. I have experience of pre-bereavement, supporting both individuals preparing for their death and anticipating the death of someone important in their life. I have worked with clients in frontline services, including police, ambulance, medical services, and the armed forces and have an understanding of the impact this can have. I have also worked with clients who are facing difficult life situations, perhaps feeling unhappy in a relationship, or in their work, and have helped them to work through the issues finding answers that are right for them. Finally, I have experience supporting adult adoptees who wish to explore the impact of their adoption on their life, and mothers who relinquished babies for adoption.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
