About me

My theoretical approach in psychotherapy is Integrative.  This enables me to adapt how I work with each person or couple, depending on their presenting issues and the impact of them, whilst respecting individual beliefs, values and cultures.

My aim is to offer you a confidential, non-judgemental, safe space to air and explore any issues of concern. I see the purpose of therapy as an opportunity for personal development and growth with the aim of addressing your issues and coping mechanisms in order to become more content in life.

My role as a professional therapist is to facilitate and enable this by working with you in order to aid your self-awareness and understanding so that you can feel empowered to make relevant and lasting changes in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist over 20 years ago and I am a registered as well as accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).

I am also a qualified couples therapist and have many years experience of working with all kinds of relationships at various stages and ages, both in the NHS and in private practice.

I have experience of working therapeutically with men and women of all ages and backgrounds. I have worked in schools, youth counselling services, charity organisations as well as in the NHS and now currently in private practice.  In addition to seeing clients face to face, I also offer remote counselling either over the telephone and via video calls.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

It is natural to have some reservations, hesitations or even anxiety, if you are thinking about accessing therapy.  It also suggests that maybe you have been struggling for a while and would benefit from talking through some of your thoughts and feelings.
If you would like to have an informal, no obligation, but confidential chat about whether this is right for you, please do contact me.
