When can Therapy help?
Each of us have encountered at some time in our lives a crisis or problem where we have felt depressed and anxious with nowhere to turn.
Perhaps the anxiety and stress is caused by past experiences, maybe you have relationship problems or a feeling of confusion and loneliness that you just don't understand. You may have a phobia or obsession and just can't find a way forward or perhaps encountered a trauma that is still affecting your life. You may have a situation that you find too big to bear or simply lack direction or motivation.
This is where Psychological therapy can help you find your own way forward by gaining a deeper understanding of the situation. I will aim to provide you with the skills to develop a more satisfying and resourceful way of dealing with your thoughts and behaviours to enable you to cope with your problems.
Through self exploration you can learn to recognise patterns and negative beliefs that influence your moods, thoughts and behaviours. This awareness can help to ensure that you adopt more effective coping strategies for the future.
Is this the right Therapy for me?
I offer confidential adult therapy to all ages, regardless of your sexual orientation, cultural background, gender or outlook and I can provide therapy for a range of problems including:
Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Stress and Worry
Divorce and Separation
Isolation and Loneliness
Lack of Confidence
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OCD
Low Self Esteem
Relationship & Sexual Issues
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
These problems can be personally overwhelming and self limiting, which can affect your health and day to day wellbeing.
Throughout therapy the aim is to provide a supportive and trusted environment to enable you to explore your issues.
You will be supported as you gain positive thinking and a new perspective on your situation. You will not be given advice and most certainly will not be judged in any way.
You will be heard with respect and acceptance as you try to move forward at your own pace during painful and difficult issues.
With support and understanding your principles and decisions along with your right to make your own choices will be honoured as you resolve your particular problems.
Sessions are generally one hour per week for a mutually agreed period and depending on what type of therapy is involved, however according to your circumstances a flexible times can be adapted.
Training, qualifications & experience
Bsc. (Hons) Degree in Psychology
Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, EMDR and Counselling
I am a qualified Psychological Therapist with a private practice near Minehead, Somerset and work for Exeter and Tiverton Hospitals. I have a Bsc. (Hons) Degree in Psychology and Diplomas in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy CBT, Counselling and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing EMDR (Accredited with the British Association for Counselling Psychotherapists)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy CBT is a evidence based therapy for a wide spectrum of conditions including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, low self esteem and confidence, anger, sexual problems and phobias.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) is used for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and many other distressing memories such as trauma and abuse. EMDR utilises the natural healing ability of your body. Eye movements similar to those experienced during rapid eye movement sleep (REM), will be recreated simply by asking you to follow the therapist's hand movement or light bar across your visual field. Experiences during a session may include changes in thoughts, images and feelings. This linking of related memories can lead to a dramatic and rapid improvement in in many aspects of your life.
I offer online EMDR sessions face to face or online EMDR session for Military personnel.
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
