About me

Hi I'm Dawn, Integrative Counsellor, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Mindfulness Teacher. Being trained in three specialities gives us a choice of therapies in order to help you.

I provide 1:1 face to face, online and telephone counselling for adults. I cover many areas the mains ones being; General anxiety, social anxiety, depression, low mood, low self- esteem, low confidence, panic, stress, anger, childhood issues, family issues, life crisis, bereavement, trauma, domestic abuse, loss, sadness and I just don't seem to be able to cope.

As your Counsellor I will listen, support and work with you. Firstly, by finding out what you are struggling with in ‘your world’. I use a variety of theories; Person Centred, CBT and Psychodynamic and different strategies and tools which I mix and match depending on what your worries and concerns are, how you process things and your personality. For the best results we need to work as a team. We need to be open and honest with each other in order for me to understand and know what's important to you. I can then adapt each session to your needs and difficulties in order for you to gain insight, movement and to help you put changes into your life, in order for you to feel happier and more contented.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in the NHS for over 33 years. I started my career as a Registered General Nurse. I moved on from physical care to psychological care by training as an Integrative Counsellor as I wanted to make more of a difference to people’s lives, to have time to talk to them, to empower them to make changes in their lives. I chose to train in three different theories in Counselling; Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as we are all unique and one theory doesn’t fit us all.

I believe that we all have the resources to help ourselves we just need time, space and some motivation to work it all out. In order to help us tap into our inner resources and the subconscious mind I further trained in Clinical Hypnotherapy, in different theories; Solution Focused, CBT and Ericksonian in order to complement my counselling. Hypnotherapy enables me to tackle some issues that counselling cannot always get too and vice versa.

In order to be able to carry out more short term work I have further trained in Solution Focused, Transactional Analysis (TA), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and I am a Mindfulness Teacher.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
