About me

Hi, I'm Beth.

I'm the owner of Ivy Light Therapy and a qualified Counsellor & Therapist. I'm a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I’m an integrative therapist which means I adapt my style of therapy dependant on the needs of the client, I do not expect you to adapt yourself to my way of working.

I provide short-term and long-term therapy to adults and young people aged 11-18.

I offer sessions face to face, online and on the phone.

I have extensive experience working with adults and have provided therapy to clients with issues ranging from divorce, separation and loss to imposter syndrome, anxiety, low self-esteem, historic abuse and trauma. I have experience providing talking therapy to many medical practitioners & educational specialists.

I also have a wealth of experience working with young people, counselling young people with issues ranging from self-harm, low mood and anxiety to body image concerns, changes in home life and academic related issues. Previously, I was the counselling lead in a local secondary school, before going full time into private practice.

As a teenager, I had negative experiences of counselling. I felt like I had to fit myself into whatever my therapist wanted, as opposed to feeling able to be authentically me, and I never truly felt heard.

So, in my practice, I am committed to making sure the therapeutic journey is a collaborative process, that keeps client preferences at its heart.

The reason I created Ivy Light Therapy was to provide a modern and relatable service, bringing together like-minded counsellors and psychotherapists, all sharing the mindset that counselling and psychotherapy should hold the client at the heart of the process.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
