About me
Something has brought you here. Let’s talk about it.
Hello, my name is Akin, I am a therapist who specialises in psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I help people resolve issues related to anxiety, depression and stress, people who wish to experience change, healing and self-discovery.
Past or present issues such as trauma, abuse, abandonment or crises, for example, may be affecting you today, leaving you worried about your future. As a result, it's possible you now find yourself in states of low self-esteem, low self-confidence or in need of help with anger management or support with urges and addictions. Maybe you feel you have a poor relationship with yourself and others, you have a low level of trust in yourself, or you find yourself ruminating over your unhealthy behaviours and unfortunate outcomes. For many, therapy is, and has been, a proven way forward.
What I offer is the therapeutic time and space needed for you to freely process issues affecting you, with help and without judgement. My therapy style involves me bringing myself, connecting with you and the two of us forming a sincere, therapeutic relationship. I am an integrative therapist, meaning I specialise in multiple approaches and utilise them based on your needs, your story, and the depth of our work.
I can offer long or short-term therapy. If you’re unsure, that's okay, we will discuss this beforehand and as we go.
For our work to be effective, I’d like you to come as you are. As best as you can, bring your authentic self; scars, shadows, fears, hopes and all, and be ready to engage in the process. I understand therapy can be challenging, scary, frustrating, and unusual. It can, however, also be transformative.
My aim is to help you gain insights about yourself and your issues, to help you connect with your emotions and express yourself authentically. Together we will work towards growth, change, and healing. This can result in trusting yourself more, a reduction of internal conflict and using your agency to make healthier decisions. We will explore your relationship with yourself, others, and the world. By examining how these are linked to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, you can develop new ways of living that are more aligned with your values, beliefs and priorities.
I have a special interest in helping people work through relationship issues. These often take the form of:
- Family issues
- Parenting issues
- Romantic and sexual partner(s) issues - including, but not limited to, affairs, betrayals, separation and divorce
- Friendship and loneliness issues
- Workplace and colleagues issues
Lastly, I have a background in stand-up comedy and podcasting. I am no longer active in either, however, experiences in both contribute to my drive to help people express themselves.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
Sessions are 50 minutes and weekly.
I work in-person and online. In-person sessions take place in Bristol, BS3, on Mondays and Thursdays (afternoon and evening). Online sessions can take place on any weekday.
I offer a free, 30 minute introductory call. This is used to hear about what brings you to therapy, to answer any questions you might have and to see if you would like to book a first session. During the call, I'll share more about how I work and you'll get a feel for what therapy could look like with me.
