About me

Hello and welcome,

I believe everyone, with the right conditions in place, is capable of having a more rewarding life.  I work with young people (11+), individuals, couples, EAPs & groups.

I am an integrative counsellor.  Integrative, in my case, means using a mix of Person Centred, Psychodynamic counselling, CBT, Systemic and Attachment theory and Transactional Analysis depending on the needs of each of my clients (this means I can work on issues from the past, present or fears for the future).  I believe the more therapeutic tools I have, the more options this gives me when working with each of my clients.

I have a huge bank of experience gained from over twelve years in schools, Children’s Centres, work settings, private practice and couples work, gained whilst with Relate.

I have both the Diploma and Practitioner qualification in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), the Diploma in Clinical and Analytical Hypnotherapy and Professional Training in the Therapeutic Use of Mindfulness from the British Mindfulness Institute.

All this training and experience means I have the flexibility to tailor my service to you, as an individual, couple, EAP or group, to better meet your needs.

I have worked on issues from anxiety, bereavement, depression to low self esteem and trauma.  Some people have a difficult decision to make and some have had a recent loss – this isn’t always a death, but it’s an unwanted ending of some kind.  Everyone is welcome and no problem is too small – if it’s an issue to you, with my experience, I hope to help.

Being an older counsellor probably helps too as I have a lot of life experience and have gained insights into many areas.

I aspire for our counselling time together to become a safe place and for our therapy to provide you with the time and space you need to explore your thoughts, feelings and beliefs, fully supported, as you heal and then YOU decide on your future path.

Where do I do this?

I offer my physical, face to face, in person, counselling service in Runcorn or, under some circumstances, a limited mobile counselling service within 10 miles of WA7 but, my telephone counselling and online counselling service is available to you, wherever you live in the UK (when not under Covid restrictions).

My dedicated counselling room in Runcorn, for which there is ample on street parking is, please note, up one flight of stairs - if mobility is an issue for you, I can offer an alternative venue or mobile, telephone or online counselling options.

I offer a mobile counselling service (travelling to you) if your age, health condition or circumstances prevent you from travelling and the other options are not suitable, depending on the distance (no more than 10 miles away without a prior discussion and mileage may be charged £0.45 per mile).

I work with individuals, couples, young people (11+) / teenagers, schools, local authorities, local businesses and EAPs with both short and long term work.  I can offer either a face to face service, via the telephone or even on-line, whatever suits your needs, including a mix of these options.

Whilst mostly I offer daytime appointments I may have a few tea time and early morning or evening appointments too.

Counselling Options Offered
I offer six counselling options, that includes mobile counselling, face-to-face counselling, telephone counselling, on-line counselling including instant messenger and email counselling and Single Session Therapy.

Young people / teenager have an initial one hour session, after which, younger teens can be offered 30 minute ongoing counselling sessions, rather than an hour, unless we all agree an hour is more beneficial.

Young people / teenager counselling - there is counselling information and an agreement for parents/guardians on my website - for more information go to www.1to1counselling.co.uk select professional issues tab, select download counselling agreements, select counselling agreement for parents or guardians.

Single Session Therapy (SST) is for anyone who has one specific issue, dilemma or goal that they might be time sensitive about - not useful for addictions, abuse or trauma.

The aim of SST is to complete this piece of work, on this issue, in our one-off, extended session, up to 100 minutes. This doesn’t mean you can’t come back to work on other issues in the more traditional, weekly sessions - you’d be welcome.

Happy to answer any queries via phone or email, no obligation

How Many Sessions are Needed?
For most clients, between one3333 and eight sessions are enough for real progress to be made on whatever the issue is for them.  Longer term counselling can be offered when appropriate.

What is Counselling?
Counselling is about understanding what is happening to you, building up your self confidence and recognising and working toward the goals you want to achieve on the road to the life you desire.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I am a counsellor first and foremost but I can use a mix of counselling and / or NLP (this is visualisation or relaxation techniques) and / or Mindfulness when working with specific life changes, difficult decisions, making a choice, becoming free from the past and / or relaxation but no options outside counselling will be offered without the rationale for offering this being discussed with you and you have some time (minimum is usually a week) to think about it.

Relationship counselling doesn't depend on you being married, living together, same sex, opposite sex, transgender, cisgender or transsexual - if you are in any kind of relationship (including a friendship) that has problems - this service is for you.

I believe counselling works best when the chemistry between us feels right (or If you are concerned counselling is too expensive when it might not work - this might help) - in our first face-to-face or telephone hourly session, I will ask you if you wish to continue, after around 30 minutes, if you do not then the sessions stops at this point and there is NO CHARGE - and no obligation (session fee refunded same day).

If you change your mind a week / month later, honestly this is not a problem, you are welcome to come back as I know how hard this first step into counselling can be, I just don't offer the 30 minute taster option more than once.

If expense is a concern, we won’t have one more counselling session than is necessary.

Finally, please consider this, successful counselling can often take just weeks not months!

I really hope to see you soon.3
