Larraine Cox (formerly Simpson), Registered Member MBACP
Hello and welcome
Asking for help can be so difficult especially when dealing with strong emotions such as jealousy, relationship or family issues, anger, stress, anxiety, panic, generalised anxiety disorder and / or depression, to name but a few of so many possible concerns but, it is my aim to help you on the road to the life you desire.
I am an experienced, qualified counsellor and I offer my caring, empathic, professional counselling service in the Cheshire & Merseyside area. I have a dedicated counselling room in Runcorn for which there is ample on street parking but please note it is up one flight of stairs - if mobility is an issue for you, I can offer an alternative venue or mobile, telephone or online counselling options.
I offer a mobile counselling service (travelling to you) in the surrounding local areas of Cheshire and Merseyside.
I work with individuals, couples, young people (11+) / teenagers, local businesses and EAPs with either short or long term work. I offer either the face to face service, via the telephone or even on-line, whatever suits your needs, including a mix of these options.
Whilst mostly I offer daytime appointments I also have a few tea time or evening appointments too.
Maybe you feel overwhelmed, confused, sad, flat, lost or alone, concerned about a present or past relationship. Are you being bullied or struggling with the challenges of being, or living with, a step parent, or blended family? Maybe a life change is proving too challenging to deal with such as divorce, illness, redundancy or retirement.
If you have suffered a loss or bereavement from miscarriage, suicide, cancer, age, are have issues over being straight or LGBTQ+ or any of the myriad reasons, you may not believe this right now but, talking really can help.
My training and experience enables me to offer you a caring and compassionate counselling session and to treat whatever you bring to the session with confidence and respect.
How will I do this?
Integrated counsellor, in my case, means I use a mix of person centred, psychodynamic and CBT counselling depending on the needs of each individual (that means I can work with you on issues from the past, present or even fears for the future).
As well as my counselling qualifications I have a huge bank of experience gained from counselling for five years in Halton's Children's Centres, counselling young people / teenagers for three years in a secondary school, from being in private practice for over eleven years and working as a relationship counsellor / couples counsellor with Relate for over five years, I have both the Diploma and Practitioner qualification in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), the Diploma in Clinical and Analytical Hypnotherapy and Professional Training in the Therapeutic Use of Mindfulness from the British Mindfulness Institute.
All this training and experience means I have the flexibility to tailor my service to you, as an individual, to better meet your needs.
A counsellor since 2001 when I was trained to offer a one to one telephone service with Arthritis Care. In every role since I have worked with a wide variety of mental health issues including depression, stress and anxiety as well as providing emotional and practical support to carers. This encouraged me to undertake the qualifications necessary to enable me to offer this qualified, professional service to you.
I have been a carer for most of my life, I've also worked in Citizen Advocacy and the Mental Health arena and I am all too aware of the practical and mobility difficulties some people face which prevent them from accessing counselling.
Counselling Options Offered
I offer five counselling options, that includes mobile counselling, face-to-face counselling, telephone counselling, on-line counselling - that is instant messenger and email counselling.
Young people / teenager can be offered 30 minute counselling sessions rather than an hour unless we all agree an hour might be more beneficial.
Young people / teenager counselling - there is a counselling information and agreement for parents guardians on my website - for more information go to www.1to1counselling.co.uk select professional issues tab, select download counselling agreements, select counselling agreement for parents or guardians. Happy to answer any queries via phone or email.
How Many Sessions are Needed?
For most clients, between one and six sessions are enough for real progress to be made on whatever the issue for them. Longer term counselling can be offered when appropriate.
What is Counselling?
Counselling is about understanding what is happening to you, building up your self confidence and recognising and working toward the goals you want to achieve on the road to the life you desire.

Other areas of counselling I deal with
I am a counsellor first and foremost but I can use a mix of counselling and / or NLP (this is visualisation or relaxation techniques) and / or Mindfulness when working with specific life changes, difficult decisions, making a choice, becoming free from the past and / or relaxation but no options outside counselling will be offered without the rationale for offering this being discussed with you and you have some time (minimum is usually a week) to think about it.
Relationship counselling doesn't depend on you being married, living together, same sex, opposite sex, transgender, cisgender or transsexual - if you are in any kind of relationship (including a friendship) that has problems - this service is for you.
I believe counselling works best when the chemistry between us feels right and you agree or If you are concerned counselling is too expensive when it might not work - in our first face-to-face or telephone hourly session, if you don’t wish to proceed after 30 minutes then – NO CHARGE - and no obligation. Change your mind a week / month later, no problem you are welcome to come back - I know how hard this can be, I just don't offer the 30 minute option more than once. We won’t have one more session than is necessary.
Finally, please consider this, successful counselling can often take just weeks not months!
I really hope to see you soon.
I offer five options for counselling:
Telephone Counselling (using a BT line) I have a webcam available so if you wanted to use Skype for telephone (or instant messaging) counselling, we could be face-to-face via the computer screen (let me know you'd like this option when we agree our session).
Instant Messenger Counselling (using AOL and / or ICQ and / or Skype)
Face to Face Counselling - either at counsellor's residence in WA7 or
Face to Face Counselling - mobile counselling service within Cheshire / Merseyside areas - to your home, office or agreed location.
Please note: The young person's initial session is an hour but young people can be offered ongoing counselling in 30 minute counselling sessions, depending on the agreed needs of the young person. Hour long young person sessions are also available.
(For personal safety, counsellor may be escorted to client's home but driver will remain outside) - mileage may be charged for locations more than 10 miles from WA7 @ £0.40 per mile, one-way, for each session - any charge will be agreed prior to visit.
There is a discount for the last session when payment is made, in advance, for six sessions.
