Larraine Cox, 1 To 1 Counselling, Registered MBACP, Accred Reg NCS, Supervisor
If you are considering counselling but wondering how to choose - let me help you, by telling you about our first session together, then a little about what I do and where and finally about my experience.
When we agree our first session I will email you my counselling agreement.
At our first session, we will briefly discuss this counselling agreement, which includes confidentiality and GDPR and, as we discuss this, it will give time to relax. Then, we will broadly outline the reasons for your visit. It is important to me that you feel comfortable, when we are working together, whether face to face, telephone or online counselling, the chemistry between us is important. After 20 minutes, I will ask you if you wish to continue?
If you don't wish to continue, no problem, no further questions - such as why not, the session stops and a full refund is given. I really do understand it's hard to sit in the counselling chair and it's best to do it when ready.
If you say yes, you wish to continue, our therapeutic journey together will begin.
Now, hopefully, you are reassured you won't waste your money if you choose me.
What do I do - I enjoy counselling young people (11+), individuals, couples, relationships and I also like to work with groups.
Where: Nationally, as due to the pandemic, I am doing all that I do online or via telephone counselling.
My experience - is considerable and comes from over fifteen years in private practice. I've counselled young people in secondary schools; I've workined with individuals and couples in Children’s Centres, workplaces and my relationship counselling experience comes from over ten years working within Relate, as an individual, relationship and young person's counsellor.
How do I do it? - I am an integrative counsellor. Integrative, which in my case, means using a mix of several counselling theories, depending on your needs.
This means I can work with you on issues from the past, present or fears for the future. I believe the more therapeutic tools I have, the more options this gives me when working with you.
Additional Training: I also have qualifications in and experience working with NLP, Mindfulness and am a Rewind Trauma Therapist.
All this training and experience means I have the flexibility to tailor my service to you, as an individual, couple or young person or organisation, to better meet your needs.
I understand it can be difficult to make the decision to work on things that are bothering you and I'd like to assure you I have experience of working on issues from anxiety, bereavement, depression to low self esteem and trauma. If you a dilemma or a difficult decision to make I won't tell you want to do but I will help you see all the options (and if required, the possible consequences) so you can make an informed choice. If you have had a recent loss – this isn’t always a death, but it’s an unwanted ending of some kind, I can help.
That doesn't mean you will get a one size fits all type of therapy - our sessions together will be as unique as you are
Being an older counsellor possibly helps too as I have a lot of life experience and have gained insights into many areas, which may be useful.
Everyone is welcome and no problem is too small – if it’s an issue to you, with my experience, I hope to help.

Where do I do this? When Covid restrictions permit, I offer my physical, face to face, in person, counselling service in my home in Runcorn, in a comfortable room with two armchairs and a two seater sofa (please note - this is up a flight of stairs).
I am located five miles from Junction 11 or 12 of the M56. Within a mile of Runcorn East Railway Station or local bus routes. My location is anonymous and your confidentiality assured.
My dedicated counselling room in Runcorn, for which there is ample on street parking is, please note, up one flight of stairs - if mobility is an issue for you, I can offer you either an alternative venue or telephone or online counselling options.
My telephone counselling and online counselling service is available to you wherever you live in the UK.
Usually, I can offer either a face to face service, via the telephone or online counselling, whatever suits your needs, including a mixture of these options.
Whilst mostly I offer daytime appointments I sometimes have a few tea time and early morning or evening appointments too (subject to availability). I have first come, first served policy which means payment to be made when booking to confirm the appointment.
Counselling Options Offered
I offer five counselling options, that includes face-to-face counselling (Covid permitting), telephone counselling, on-line counselling including instant messenger, email counselling, Single Session Therapy and offering Rewind Trauma Therapy.
Single Session Therapy (SST) is for anyone who has one specific issue, dilemma or goal that they might be time sensitive about - not useful for addictions, abuse or trauma.
The aim of SST is to complete this piece of work, on this issue, in our one-off, extended session, up to 100 minutes. This doesn’t mean you can’t come back to work on other issues in the more traditional, weekly sessions - you’d be welcome.
Young people / teenager have an initial one hour assessment session, after which, younger teens can be offered 30 minute ongoing counselling sessions, rather than an hour, unless we all agree an hour is more beneficial.
Young people / teenager counselling - there is counselling information and an agreement for parents/guardians on my website - for more information go to www.1to1counselling.co.uk select professional issues tab, select download counselling agreements, select counselling agreement for parents or guardians.
I am happy to answer any queries you have via phone or email, no obligation
How Many Sessions are Needed?
For most clients, between two and eight sessions are enough for real progress to be made on whatever the issue is for them. Longer term counselling can be offered when appropriate.
