About me

I can help you. If you’re looking for a counsellor who’s a bit different from the rest, is down to earth and believes that humour can have a place in therapy, someone who will really listen and work with you as you become the person you want to be, living the life you want to live, then let's be in touch. I can either see clients face to face or online.

A little bit more about me is that I am a Senior Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor & Supervisor with a practice in St Leonards/Hastings, East Sussex.  I am also a registered approved therapist with Anxiety UK and Health Assured,  and a Senior Bereavement Counsellor & Trainer at my local hospice. I am a trained and approved practitioner by the NCFED working with those affected by Eating Disorders and I also work with clients and families affected by acquired brain injuries and those with life limiting health conditions or who are simply just trying to find a way of living or being together.

I feel passionately that everyone has the right to be the person they want to be, living the life they want to live, and I believe that with support, everyone has everything they need inside of themselves to do that. Whatever that means for you, I will be led by you, supporting you to make the changes you want to make. When we work together I will bring myself and all my skills to our therapeutic relationship, you will bring yourself and a desire to change something about your life, and if you’re thinking ‘but I don’t know what changes I want to make!’’ that's completely ok, we can explore until something feels right for you.

If you’re concerned that I’m a counsellor who sits and doesn’t talk, don’t be... I do talk (but not in ‘psychobabble’) and think that our dialogue is a two-way process building that connection and trust between us. I also listen. I’m interested in what you have to say, why you feel and do, as you do. I also believe humour too can have a useful place in life and if that comes into the therapy room, then that's fine too. If appropriate and you’re open to the idea, we can also choose to work creatively

In recent years I was a NCFE tutor of Counselling Skills to Diploma level at my local college where I also led non certificated Mindfulness, Psychology and Self Esteem courses.

It's my aim to become redundant as soon as possible; you can choose to stay as long as you need to or just for a few sessions. However long or short that is, I really look forward to knowing you and sharing your journey and if your particular concern is not listed, do feel free to contact me, I may be able to help or recommend someone who can.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Senior Accredited Counsellor NCS
  • Practitioner Skills in Eating Disorders NCFED
  • Approved Anxiety UK Therapist
  • Dip in Therapeutic Supervision
  • UKATA Diploma Transactional Analysis Practitioner
  • NCFE Level 1, 2 and 3 Counselling Skills and Theory.
  • Numerous Professional Personal Certificated and Non Certificated Courses.

I am trained in many areas of counselling and also have many years experience working with bereavement & loss and also clients and their families living with acquired brain injuries several of whom have Aphasia (limited speech and word finding abilities). This can mean communication is not quite as fast but it's really important to find ways to express thoughts and feelings when it's not easy to 'just come out with them'.

I also work with families and heterosexual/same sex couples on relationship issues.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

NCPS
National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society

This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Counselling and Psychotherapy can raise a wide range of emotions, this is normal. The process can be challenging but it can also offer hope and a new beginning. I will never force you to talk about anything you find difficult before you are ready, or want to. I will be sensitive to the pace at which you want to work and I won’t expect any big showing of feelings if that really isn’t your style. Here are some words from a few clients who have been through the process:

"Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me. I will miss our conversations and the wonderful help, support and tools you provided me to move forward the best I can.
I really feel honoured that our paths crossed and I hope we meet again in the future. You provided me with so much comfort. I feel you were heaven sent. You’ve been nothing short of amazing."

''Thank you for everything you've done for me. How am I feeling? - Happy! :-)''

''The past 18mnths have been some of the hardest of my life. With your constant support, patience, guidance and kindness I feel that I have come out the other side stronger, more confident and able to cope with whatever the future holds. Thank You for being there''.

''You have been unfailingly supportive and committed. I feel like you have both 'pushed me on' and 'picked me up' at exactly the right times. Thank you so much.''

''Thank you for giving me time, showing me patience and letting me be''

''I'm glad I chose you! :-)''
