About me

Counselling is an individual process. A chance to stop, take time and think about what is happening to you and how the things that have happened to you impact your life and relationships.

Trauma affects our entire bodies. It makes our minds focus on the unhelpful and it finds a home within our whole being. The process of counselling is an exploration of how we think, feel act and use ourselves physically.

I have had 20 years experience of working in the therapeutic world. I have been head of a community substance misuse service, a mental health trainer and also have extensive experience in young peoples mental health services. I have also worked witH the LBGTQI community and within CAMHS services across Eastern England.
I have an interest in Women’s issues around pregnancy, motherhood and menopause.

I have an addictions speciality having worked in substance misuse services for many years with a particular interest in how alcohol effects women.

I have extensive personal and professional experience of working with cancer diagnosis and offer cancer support throughout the process. Through this work, I have assisted people through palliative and end of life care helping individuals and families with this stage of life.

For many years I worked with Age Concern and Age UK as an older peoples advocate so have a lot of experience around the aging process and how it affects confidence and self esteem.

I’ve worked as postural stability instructor and ballet teacher so I am aware of how the body moves under stress.

I work in a person centred, Psychodynamically informed way, at your pace.  I offer encouragement to try postural and breathing techniques and other self care that may be useful in getting to know your whole self.

I look forward to the journey with you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
