About me

Hello, my name is Tracey.

Are you struggling to cope in our challenging world? Suffering from anxiety, panic attacks or depression? Relationship problems? Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed, worried and sad? Do you often feel 'not good enough'? Is it time for change?

If so click here to send me an email.

At times life can feel overwhelming and it can be difficult to see how we can move forward or make things better for ourselves. Counselling can be the first step towards change, to regaining a sense of control in your life and a better, more positive future for you.

I work with both adults (individuals and couples) and young people, helping with all of the difficulties life can throw at us.  I can offer you coping strategies to help in your day to day life, whilst working with you to gain insight into how you might move forward with more confidence.

l am particularly passionate about young people's mental health and in helping young people to navigate the often difficult journey from adolescence to adulthood. The adolescent years can often be an emotional roller coaster, full of highs and lows and the perfect breeding ground for worry, anxiety and a whole host of other challenges.

Through couples counselling, I also provide support and understanding to those clients experiencing relationship issues. I can provide a neutral space for you to explore the difficulties you’re experiencing in your relationship and to find healthier ways of relating. I will work with you jointly to identify and clarify the issues or problems you are facing, to support you to identify and express your needs, to agree your goals and to identify the potential and direction for change.

I also provide support and understanding for those of us who have suffered the loss of a beloved pet. Sometimes, friends, family or colleagues don’t quite understand how distressing pet loss can be and grieving for a pet can be a very lonely experience. I am here to listen with compassion and without judgement.

I am also a qualified supervisor, providing clinical supervision to both qualified and trainee counsellors.  I am on Lincoln University's Register of Approved Supervisors and particularly enjoy working with trainee counsellors. It can feel incredibly daunting for trainee counsellors starting out on placement and my aim is to support them to develop their own style, sharing my experiences and giving them the confidence to grow and flourish. Please see my supervision profile for more information.

In addition to being a counsellor and supervisor, I also offer life coaching. We live accelerated lives and often try to pack in more than we are able to. Hidden mental blocks can often leave us feeling overwhelmed, stressed and disillusioned with life. We often find ourselves chasing goals and dreams that we never originally had. Similarly, we may become too comfortable with our lives and get stuck in a rut and lose motivation to push ourselves.  I can help you to dig beneath the surface of your thoughts and beliefs and help you to understand internal obstacles to your success and wellbeing. I can provide a framework , based on your individual fears, beliefs and motivation, that will allow you to examine different aspects of your life, from where you can determine your vision for the future.

MY APPROACH

I am a highly experienced, qualified counsellor and supervisor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, working to their code of ethics. I am a humanistic-integrative counsellor, which simply means that I draw on a framework of different therapeutic models, using them creatively and flexibly in order to meet your specific needs and personal circumstances. This includes CBT.

I am friendly and down-to-earth and can offer you a safe, confidential space, where you can decide exactly what you want to share, where your voice will be heard and where you will not be judged. I also offer you respect, empathy, honesty and understanding; the foundations upon which we can build a therapeutic relationship. I provide both long term and short term counselling.

My priority is to help you to the best of my ability; to understand you and the world in which you live and the responsibilities and anxieties that you may be trying to cope with.

My aim is to help you to explore and understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and to consider and reflect on what keeps you in a place of unhappiness or distress.  I want to help you to do this at you own pace and without feeling judged.

My hope is that you gain a better understanding and awareness of yourself, your feelings and your relationships, enabling you to move towards change and growth.

My private practice is in the village of Dyke, on the edge of Bourne. It's within easy reach of Spalding, Stamford, Market Deeping, Sleaford, Grantham and Peterborough. My counselling room is private and peaceful and there is ample parking space.

STARTING THERAPY

There are lots of practising counsellors to choose from and it's really important that you find the right one for you. You need someone with whom you feel you can work, someone who will really listen to you and who will do their very best to understand your world.

I realise that taking that first step towards help by contacting a counsellor can be daunting and may cause feelings of anxiety, particularly if you haven't had counselling before. The reality is that we all need help at some time, so I would encourage you to make that first step if you can.  I am more than happy to speak to you over the telephone or through email contact if that is easier. We can discuss what counselling will involve, how we might work together, as well as what you want help with.

This initial (15 minute or so) telephone consultation is free and there is no obligation for you to set up sessions. If you decide that you wish to proceed, we can then set up your first session and take it from there.

If you call me and I am unable to take the call, please leave me a message stating when would be a good time for me to call you back.

If you decide to start counselling, my aim will be to put you at ease in the first session. We will discuss key aspects of the therapeutic relationship, for example, maintaining confidentiality, as well as exploring in more detail what it is that's brought you to therapy.

If you know what it is you'd like to achieve out of counselling we will explore that too. If you don't know, that's absolutely fine; clients don't always explicitly know what they want to achieve. Sometimes it's as simple as 'feeling normal again'.

If there are lots of different things going on in your life, we can look at what you might want to work on first. If you're not sure, I can guide you with what I think might be the best approach.

Young people attend sessions without a parent or carer present and confidentiality is managed in the same way as it is for adults.

It can be hard for young people to open up and building a trusting relationship is very important. They may not feel able to talk to family or friends about their problems or don’t want to ‘burden’ them. My aim is to create a safe space where they feel able to talk through their concerns.

I want to help them to understand their emotions better and to develop coping skills and build emotional resilience, something that will serve them well into adulthood.

Sometimes young people have the idea that a counsellor will just be the latest adult trying to tell them what to do. That’s not the case. What I offer as a counsellor is an opportunity for them to explore their feelings, thoughts and experiences, to understand and discuss issues that may be on their mind and to help them make sense of the world they live in.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
