About me

Hello! My name is Tom Kent and I have a Masters in Systemic Psychotherapy, which means I am able to work with individuals, families, couples, children and adolescents.  I have over 10 years’ experience working within adult, adolescent and child mental health services. I also have experience working within disability, addiction and looked after children environments. I aim to offer effective and individualised psychological care.  Don't worry if this all sounds a bit daunting as I am able to offer a 20 - 30 minute free discussion prior to you deciding whether my way of working would suit you!  I am welcoming, down to earth and compassionate with my approach and always feel that we are in the therapy together.  My aim is to be a guide for you to discover and heal yourself.  I have an interest in working with different cultures and genders and understand the difficulties that these dynamics can sometimes have on one's emotional well-being.

In addition to the above my main overall focus of my approach is to help individuals, couples and families move forward with hope and positivity. This is often achieved through uncovering their inner strengths and positive values and beliefs.  I utilise a range of research-based approaches and offer a 'light' touch to help with what may be perceived as 'heavy' problems. I am able to work with multiple complex dynamics and have experience and enjoy working with difference. I take a sensitive and understanding approach to my work, which has helped get positive outcomes in a short space of time.  I am not one to spend years keeping clients in therapy.  I want clients to become self-reliant, resilient and foresee a hopeful future, which is always achievable with a bit of motivation and work.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have extensive experience within many areas of difficulty. I am able to work with whole families, individuals or a mixture of dynamics. I have worked with varying genders and different cultures, which has given me a good understanding of the prejudices that some people have been exposed to. I am open about my white privilege and will be honest about this within my work. I also work with couples on relationship difficulties and this has also included different gender and cultural mixes. I have also worked with addiction, disability and child and adolescent issues. I have a flexible and open way of working and am open to completing therapy online, at my home or out in the open to help reconnect to nature, which can often have a positive therapeutic influence.

The offer of a free initial discussion to explore goals and see whether my way fits is always open.

Thank you for reading my profile..  Tom
