About me

Hi there. My name is Siobhan and I am a CBT Therapist. I work in person with clients in a lovely space in Edinburgh's West End. I also offer the flexibility of online or telephone sessions if this suits you better.

What Can you Expect From Our Sessions

In our sessions you can expect me to be warm, empathetic, encouraging, non-judgemental and supportive. Clients have described me as friendly, with a calm and easy style. It's a privilege to provide a confidential safe space for people to open up and be heard. I will be compassionate to your individual needs and situation.

How I Work

I am an integrative therapist with an evidence based practice. I treat each client I work with in an individual and tailored way. Depending on client's needs, as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy l can bring in aspects of Compassion Focused, Person Centred and Solution Focused Therapy as well as mindfulness. I want to help you discover the tools inside yourself to see things from a new perspective and live a more empowered life. Together we will come up with goals of growth and change. I will be with you every step of the journey using a combination of tools and exploration to help you reach your goals. Change is always possible.

What is CBT?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. CBT is a common treatment for many mental health problems and experiences. I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, burnout, stress, neurodiversity and life changes such as moving away from home, getting married or divorced. I often work with students facing challenges with university or people struggling with burnout and stress at work. I have experience facilitating group therapy on areas such as managing anxiety, low mood, self-esteem and compassion.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a qualified and BACP Registered Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
  • I hold a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Group Work, a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills.
  • I am supervised, insured and a member of the PVG scheme.
  • I attend regular individual and group supervision, as well as take part in CPD to ensure I keep my skills and knowledge up to date.
  • I have attended training recently on Trans Awareness, Neurodiversity, Menopause, Mid life Inevitability and Empty Nest Syndrome

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
