About me

Myself
My name is Siobhán and I am an Art Psychotherapist as well as a talking Therapist.

I'm very passionate about human connection and helping others work through trauma in a safe and contained space. I take your environment, present thought patterns and habits into mind, as well as delving deeper into the past, looking into early childhood.

I tailor my approach with every person depending on their needs: If someone just needs to talk through their day and needs someone to listen, I can do that. If they want to explore their feelings using artwork, mindfulness, or going generally deeper, I can do that as well.

I have experience working with adults with a diverse spectrum of needs: Depression, Anxiety, Attachment issues, Family Trauma, Sexual Trauma, Early years, Bereavement and Loss, Trauma and Shame in the self, and Neuro-diversity.

I also have significant experience working with children and adolescents, working in schools and private practice for 4+ years. I am passionate about the LGBTQIA+ community, especially in Trans and Gender Diverse youths, and also have experience working with ASD and ADHD.

My roots lie in Art Psychotherapy, meaning I come to each patient with a creative and expressive way of working, whether they wish to use the materials or not.

I don't believe in a 'one size fits all' approach to therapy, and I consider myself open minded when it comes to the services I offer. Being an art therapist, my training is embedded in psychotherapy, meaning I consider myself a talking psychotherapist as well.

I ask people who are interested in my practice to think about the kind of support they are looking for, some people have a specific issue to tackle, others just need somebody to listen. My practice is open to everyone, and I strongly believe as therapists we learn from our patients. If I feel an issue is out of my realm, I am always determined to guide the person in the right direction with honesty and self awareness.

I say this because I have a person-centred approach to therapy, where the connection between myself and the client becomes an important part of the work. In short, I think that finding the right therapist has a lot to do with what kind of vibration you get from them. You might think someone is perfect for you because of their qualifications, but the connection might not be there.

I would describe my practice as warm and nurturing. I like to think holistically with those that are open to that, but my goal is to always present an environment that prioritises safety and kindness. When it is appropriate though, I will challenge you, and hold you accountable. Therapy can be tough, and it is a therapists' duty to hold up a mirror to the client, to help you grow and evolve.

Art Therapy
There are some emotions that words simply cannot express. There are topics that can be too painful, too raw to say out loud. Art therapy can be an incredible tool of self expression within therapy. Art is such a big part of our world, and for most of us, it was a seamless part of our childhood.

Art making can help us connect with our inner child, and can help us access the unconscious in a safe and confidential environment.

In Art Therapy, the art materials act as a third party in the room. They are there, and they are optional. There is no need to worry about ability or skill, the act of making is enough and can be an amazing tool for self reflection. I work in a non directive way, meaning I won't ask you to draw or paint specific things. You make whatever you wish, and it stays in a locked cupboard inside the room until our therapy is terminated.

Art therapy looks different for each person. If you are interested in my practice, send me a message for a call consultation and we can discuss your personal goals and needs.

Further information

Art Therapy and Counselling or Psychotherapy are two approaches I take with clients. They are not mutually exclusive and sessions will include aspects of both.

Art making and materials are always an option but it is the client's choice, the session is centred around the client's needs and wants, which might be exclusively speaking or just art making, or both.
