About me

Hello I’m Shelley, welcome to my page.

You have taken the first step which is the hardest. Whatever has brought you here today I am here to listen. This may be the first time you have thought about counselling. Perhaps you need someone to listen to you, maybe for the very first time.

As a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist I will help you gain some awareness and insight as to why you are feeling the way you do in your current situation. By working with each other we will gradually explore the internal conflicts which are causing you anxiety and pain, and work towards helping you change your way of thinking so you can start to feel more engaged and connected.

You may be feeling overwhelmed with:

  • Addictions
  • Anxiety/Panic Attacks
  • Bereavement
  • Isolation, anxiety
  • Depression & low moods,
  • Feeling sad
  • Financial Situation
  • Job Loss
  • Low Self - Esteem
  • Disturbed Sleep
  • Eating Disorders/Anorexia
  • Suicide Ideation or loss of a loved one to suicide
  • Divorce and Separation and other relationship issues.

My Approach

Psychodynamic Counselling helps you to understand long-standing conflicts from the past, enabling you to become more self-aware. Issues you may be struggling with in adulthood will be rooted in early childhood. By exploring these experiences you will begin to understand the impact they have had on your adult life. Once you gain a better insight and awareness you will begin to change your way of thinking whilst making the adjustments you need to help you cope and move forward.

Finding a therapist can be a daunting process. It is important that you feel comfortable with a therapist who you plan to work with on a regular basis. Therapy is a therapeutic relationship between you and your therapist where trust and confidentiality are vital.

I will offer you a safe and confidential space for you to explore your feelings which may be preventing you from moving forward. You will be able to talk freely perhaps for the very first time within a non - judgemental environment at a pace that suits you. Whether it be open ended or short term therapy.

I am here to ensure you feel comfortable and safe.

Sessions

I am able to offer Face to Face sessions dependent on availability, online sessions via zoom and via telephone.

Online/telephone sessions are particularly helpful to you if you prefer to be in your own environment where you may feel most comfortable.

If you would like to have face to face,  telephone / online therapy and would like to find out more about how therapy will work for you please do get in touch.

Don't try and cope on your own, please do get in contact. You can call me on 07891 170 472 or use the contact form here to email me.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
