About me

I am an experienced Art Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor with over 30 years of experience working in a variety of different Mental Health settings including 20 years working as a senior Art Psychotherapist in an NHS Adult Community Mental Health Team providing individual and group Art Psychotherapy. I have also worked with children in educational settings. I run my own Private Practice and offer Clinical Supervision as well as Art Psychotherapy sessions.

Clinical Supervision

My many years of varied clinical experience have led me to focus on my skills as a clinical supervisor. I have a wealth of experience to draw from. For a number of years I have worked for the Northern Programme, MA Art Psychotherapy training course, facilitating Student Clinical Supervision Groups. I have also clinically supervised Art Psychotherapy Students on placement. As well as this I have Clinically supervised Art Psychotherapists working in a variety of different work settings including NHS adult mental health services and schools.

I feel that my experience enables me to offer informed, sensitive and robust clinical supervision to Art Psychotherapists as well as other practitioners.

Being open to self-reflection as a psychotherapist enables you to process the complexity of experiences and feelings that are often brought to the therapy room.

I believe strongly that good clinical supervision is an important part of all psychotherapists continuing professional development.

Art Psychotherapy

The most important thing I can offer in art psychotherapy sessions is a nonjudgmental space in which I will listen, and for you to feel seen, believed and heard. I feel that this in turn can provide a safe space within which a good therapeutic relationship can be formed with the therapist.

For some of us talking about what we are feeling or what we have experienced is hard, without also having to try and find the right words.

At times there are no words to describe what we are going through.

Sometimes we simply don't know what it is we are feeling or experiencing.

Through using the art materials to make images we can begin to get in touch with deeper issues we want to look at and explore.

The art psychotherapist doesn't set the pace, you do. You can do as little or as much image making as you like.

You do not have to be good at Art to be able to engage with Art Psychotherapy as the art psychotherapist will help and support you in finding your own unique way to use the art materials to make images.

Art Psychotherapy can often feel very powerful by giving you an alternative language to words and another way to express yourself.

We all experience life through images as well as words and by making images we can begin to find ways to speak about ourselves.

It can be daunting and overwhelming making that first step of finding a therapist or clinical supervisor, I am happy to arrange a suitable time to chat further on the phone with you about what you are looking for and what I can offer. Please contact me by email or phone and leave a message.
