About me

Whatever is holding you back from living  life on your terms with meaning, peace of mind and self-compassion is worth having a conversation about.  I have over 29 years experience working in Statutory Services, NHS, voluntary and private sectors. I have worked extensively with people presenting with moderate and severe mental health conditions. I am experienced in working with, depression, anxiety, sexuality, traumatic experiences, domestic violence, sexual and emotional abuse, self harm, anger issues, stress, addiction, personality disorders, eating disorders, relationship and issues, grief . I work with individuals, couples and groups.

Engaging with therapy can be a powerful tool in Healing psychological trauma, inspiring personal growth and connection to self. I will sit with you in a safe and impartial space, working with kindness, curiosity, compassion and humour. Sharing your story, your experiences, your thoughts and feelings with a professional in a confidential and non-judgemental environment enables change, facilitates healing and enriches life with greater meaning and awareness. It is my privilege to both facilitate and bear witness to the process. When people feel overwhelmed, they may develop ongoing symptoms which would benefit from talking therapy. The effects of trauma can go unrecognised for years, sometimes only being picked up when seeking help for something else, such as anger management, addictions, suicidal ideation, or relationship issues.

When a person has been subjected to ongoing trauma, as in child abuse/neglect or domestic intimidation or violence, that could give rise to complex trauma. Abuse or neglect in childhood that has significantly affected normal psychological, emotional and social development may be referred to as developmental trauma. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be diagnosed after certain kinds of traumatic events when symptoms have been ongoing for longer than one month. Delayed onset PTSD is also possible.

Not all wounds are visible; symptoms may include:

• Nightmares

• Guilt

• Poor judgment

• Intrusive memories

• Poor memory

• Survivor guilt

• Flashbacks

• Startle reflex

I aim to provide an opportunity for you to process your thoughts and feelings in a safe, warm, and confidential and space,  I have experience working with people who have experienced trauma, childhood sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, abusive relationships, grief, anxiety, depression, and stress. I am also a qualified reflexologist aromatherapist and holistic masseuse, with a background of working in mental health.

Our sessions will go at your pace and focus on the areas you choose. At present, I am offering sessions online.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
