About me

Welcome to my practice and thank you for stopping by. As a psychotherapist trained in counselling and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), I can help you address and seek solutions to emotional difficulties and negative overthinking you may be experiencing due to anxiety and worries, family issues and relationship problems, depression and low self-esteem or anger. Are you going through significant life changes (bereavement, redundancy, burnout, health issues or retirement), finding it difficult to adjust to the new 'now'? Therapy can help.

I am trained and have experience in delivering therapy for more complex conditions such as traumas and PTSD, OCD, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety, health anxiety, panic attacks, fears and phobias and problematic behaviours. I've undertaken specialist training to offer psychosexual therapy and I bring experience from working in the NHS, Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP), insurance companies and private practice.

I offer a warm, caring environment where you can feel safe, heard and understood. I select therapy techniques and strategies from a variety of contemporary, evidence-based psychotherapies to suit your needs and preferences, and I welcome clients from all walks of life. I work with individuals aged 18+.

Further information about my OCD and Psychosexually-informed Therapy services:

Specialist therapy for OCD – Are you experiencing intrusive thoughts that make you feel anxious, distressed and think negatively about yourself? Do you feel an urge to stop or suppress these upsetting thoughts? Do you try to stop, suppress or replace these thoughts? How successfully? Do you perform actions repeatedly or in a compulsive way, such as cleaning, washing, putting things in order, checking things or seeking reassurance from others? Do you go back again and again, to check things, ‘just in case’? Do you fear that something bad is going to happen if you don't take action and that it's going to be your fault? Do you worry that having a thought about something terrible happening, will make it actually happen? Do you doubt your actions?

Are these intrusive thoughts related to order, symmetry, contamination, doubt or blasphemy? Or repugnant, horrible thoughts and fear of hurting yourself or someone else? Or unwanted, highly upsetting thoughts of engaging in sexual activities that make you feel that ‘there is something wrong with you’ or make you question your sexuality?

Do these unwanted thoughts, compulsions and rituals and take up a lot of your time, leave you exhausted and interfere with your relationships, work and life in general? Do you compare yourself unfavourably to others and see yourself 'less good' or ‘not normal’?

If some of the above aspects apply to you, you may be suffering from OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), and CBT therapies can help you manage this condition effectively. With regular sessions and a focussed plan, you can learn to manage the condition and regain control over your life.

Psychosexually-informed therapy for adult individuals – Do you feel highly anxious or scared before sex or intimacy due to problems with sexual functioning, low interest and arousal, or a lack of desire? Are you experiencing pelvic pain before, during or after penetrative sex? Are your relationships, social life, confidence and self-esteem affected negatively?  Performance anxiety?

Are you questioning your gender identity, sexuality or exploring queer sex, non-monogamy or poly relationships? Are you a member of the kink, fetish or BDSM community, experiencing uncomfortable feelings and thoughts around these? Does the use of porn or online sex make you question whether you’re addicted to sex? Have you been part of or affected by infidelity or affairs? Do feelings of shame, guilt or embarrassment interfere with your life?

Physical examination or undressing are not required in my therapy service but I may recommend that you speak to your GP or other specialist.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.
